Post by ColeMachin » Sun Aug 22, 2010 5:59 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any questions for Sid Meier?

I'm a huge fan, I played Civilization first and really liked it, but Colinization, back around 94/95 is where it was at. Such huge scope & depth in a single game, even after 15 years I still play it for hours. My question - Why did it take so long to make a follow-up, or remake, of Colonization :D
Best Games: Fate of Atlantis, DOOM, The Fury.

Yeah, Colonization and Railroad Tycoon Deluxe are my favorite Meier games, along with Pirates! I'd like to ask: "Would you like to do another Civil War game, maybe in the style of the Total War series?"

Why can you never play as the Welsh (bar in Call to Power)? :)

Sim Golf was ace, but the sport itself is a tad dull. How about using a similar formula to make Sim Soccer?

I always liked playing the Dutch in Colonization. Did you have a preferred colonial power when playing the game? If so, which?

(The question could also be adapted to Civilization, but I personally didn't settle on a preferred nation for that one as there were so many to choose from!)

Do you like being one of the few games designers to get their name above the title?

Are there any projects you cancelled or stopped working on that never saw the light of day?

You've created a number of classics in a range of genres; are there any other genres you'd like to take a stab at?

Alpha Protocal is perhaps the best embodiment we have of developing real, meaningful relationships in a game through choice. Have you considered updating Pirates! (a game that where relationships were important) using a similar template?

How do you see the 'big studio' model changing with the number of companies looking at the mobile and networking markets?

What are the exclamation marks all about? (Eg. Pirates! Gettysburg! etc)

What made your decision to go with turn-based instead of real time in games like Civilization? Also, who's your favorite Doctor Who?

How much of a say did you have in the board game adaptation of Sid Meiers Civilization?

Having bought back classics in Colonization and Pirates can you see yourself brining others back in a modern incarnation? If so which would you most like to try?

Railroad Tycoon - how did you take a subject which doesn't really have a broad popular appeal and manage to make such an addictive game?
