Murgatroyd's Revenge for the ZX81 by Cambridge Computing. It was a kind of turn based Pacman with weapons (mines and glue) where you'd input three commands at a time (ie: NNE) moving your little chap (who was represented by your initial) avoiding the ghosts (inverse quotes, obviously) while trying to pick up the key to escape from the maze. A genius game which I was an idiot to sell with my ZX81 in '85. I WANT another copy :)

Rogue Planet, anyone ? Ok, it´s not retro, but an Advance Wars-Ripoff with Mass-Effect-Ripoff music.... how can you resist ?

Turn based: Master of Orion 2: Battle at Antares. A game oozing quality from every single pore, from the cracking intro movie to the end sequence.
As for RTS I wonder why nobody has yet mentioned StarCraft. I am still playing it from time to time, 13 years after its publication.

Theme Park definitely. Followed very closely by Rollercoaster Tycoon. The only game where you can half complete a rollercoaster, set it off, and watch it fly off the tracks and plunge to it's destruction

so many to choose from.....FFT, Advance Wars, Hogs of War, Fire Emblem.....all brilliant.

There's an outright winner for me though: Vandal Hearts.

Don't know if this counts but Dungeon keeper for me was Bullfrogs best strategy game, totally original in it's design.

Always had a soft spot for the old Amiga game "Supremacy". Great fun and you got to upgrade to that Dune style armour during the course of your quest to be the supreme ruler of the entire galaxy.
What's not to like?

If, however, Supremacy is ruled out due to some bizarre technicality, I will go for Space Hulk, the old one on the PC, simply to be different and "cool"... perhaps.

"We bring death!"
I think therefore I'm right!

The criminally underrated Historyline 1914-1918 from Blue Byte. A perfect two-player strategy game!

Mine is actually Rebelstar I and II. Easy to get into, graphics are basic but the gameplay is amazing. Very addictive game to go back to and try different strategies

Archon is absolutely fab. Very similar in style to that game C3po and Chewbacca play on the Falcon. Just dont let the Wookie lose!

Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings
is the best real-time strategy game of all time.
Warcraft II was also an amazing game.

After a lot of pondering I’ve plumped for Transport Tycoon. If I could get it to work with my current PC I’d still be playing it now.

Other titles which were a close call - Rollercoaster Tycoon, Age of Empires, Red Alert and Z.

Forgive me if anyone's already mentioned it, but I vote for Chaos on the Spectrum. I still play it quite a lot today. Real or illusion - what a tester!

Real time, I'll have to go for Age Of Empires, I still hear the sounds of completed building work in my head!
Turn Based, I love Fire Emblem series but will go for Shining Force: Resurrection of The Dark Dragon as thats the last one i can remember finishing

Does Commandos count? Oh bugger, what about Cannon Fodder? :?
