Darran adviced us/me to give feedback over at this forum, so:

For heavens sake, get rid of that greenlined star!
Please don't tell me Markie came up with this!?
If you *need* to use it (for whatever reason, it can't be for estetic reasons, can it?) don't use an outline, certainly not a green one! Aww.
I'd get rid of it altogether.
The 'R' (in gameR) has a bump in its leg btw.

For the rest, I really like the type! :)

Btw, over here I see it's a blue thingie, but it still weak.

I really like the font and fade.

The star looks O.K. to me - perhaps red would be nice as well?? 8)

The star doesn't give me any problems - Its so small I can live with it. Maybe its going to be used at the end of articles (as a buffer)?

I've always wondered, what is the asterisk actually for in the RG logo?

Can someone explain?

Is it related to some kind of Basic programming command?

I agree 100% with mr.zzapback on this one!

- Drop the green star!
- If you need a small icon, then use a Space Invader or something retro related instead.
- Fix the 'R' - I noted it too, and it would be a shame if you started printing all those fancy t-shirts and binders, before you fixed it, so do it now!

Why oh why

Interestingly we were going to dump the star, but then we found a much-coveted issue one of RG and finally found out what it actually meant, so out of pure nostalgia, we kept it in.

The star was an asterisk which referred to a line of text at the bottom of the cover of issue one, which said "Retro Gamer is the UK's first regular retro magazine."

So now you know

But why keep it?

Does the * normally equate to 'everything', thus everything retro.

From a design standpoint, the star is an odd inclusion, but the rest of the logo looks good to me.

Yes, I see. However I find the reason a dull one, but I guess it's a minor problem, as long as the rest of the magazine looks spiffy!

Although one plus point is that the star itself can be versaitile and be a different colour every month without mucking about with the actual lettering of the logo.

Oh well, now they changed it into an orange *, instead of the green outlined one. Hehe.

Oh yeah, and bring back Rockford & Thing! :D

I see it's been changed from green to orange... which means clearly we're all being watched. Each of our every words is being read. Our thoughts and musings dissected for the betterment of the publication. Orwell was right!

Nah, I'm just kidding. It's nice to know that the readers and their opinions are being considered with regards to the new RG. Personally I'm fine with regards to the logo and new cover design. Interesting also to now find out what the asterisk means.
