I chose Mario as Megaman & Dizzy weren't available. That being said, in that list Bomberman comes second for me.

I'm going to pick crash, those ps1 games were epic for a 12 year old back in the day, and Crash Bandicoot is one of those cases where he just never felt right on another console.

Would have been Alex Kidd for me too, mainly for nostalgic reasons.thevulture wrote:List tad limited. No Alex kid?Etc.Ho well...Sonic it is then.
But Crash it is then, crazy character and fun if not brilliant games.

Megaman totally... except he isn't on the list
I'd have to go with Mario though, Nintendo can put him into any kind of game and still have it sell incredibly well.

Definitely Sonic - he's imbued with a little bit of personality, cool design and abilities, whereas Mario has none of these.
A shame then that since they both went 3D, Sonic games have tanked whilst Mario games have excelled. It just shows that it's not the character that makes the game; the most involving games seem to be those with a blank slate of a character which you make your own, though being a decent game in the first place clearly helps.

However from that list, it has to be Sonic. Even if like myself the 'late '90s & early 21st century hasn't been too kind.

All great mascots initially , but the moment that any of them opened their gobs to speak , years of effort to promote the characters went down the drain. And Sonic with WEAPONS ? Aw , please....

I have always loathed mascots but I do have rather a soft spot for Kirby. He's (he?) just so lovely and so brilliantly versatile. Great character, great games.
Re: Forum Opinion Question (For Issue 78)
Mario over Sonic for sure. Mario has been in over a dozen high quality games over the past three decades. The Sonic series has been a steaming pile for the past 15 years.
Whenever a main-series Mario game is announced, people start to drool. Whenever a main-series Sonic game is announced, people roll their eyes. I'm amazed people still spend their hard-earned money on the trash that Sonic Team continues to shovel out.

Even as a reformed SEGA fan myself, the power of the plumber and its continued line of great hits (unlike the blue hedgehog) take the man to the no. 1 spot.
