Eh, since the necromancer's already been:

Magicland Dizzy. All of the best bits of the Dizzy games, without any of the bad bits. Fantasy World comes a close second.

Treasure Island Dizzy is the only one I've played.
Why did you only get one life? WHY?
The game was so addictive I couldn't stop playing.
Never managed to complete it, though. :(
Ken sent me.

Always loved the original Dizzy to bits, but for me Fantasy World Dizzy was the best of the bunch - equally good gameplay plus great story, dialogue and Yolkfolk characters (as already mentioned the 30 coins thing was hard going though). The Megadrive version was also excellent.
Personally didn't enjoy Treasure Island as much, and Magicland I couldn't really get into at all for some reason.

When you think you've got problems you don't really need,
They're maybe not as bad as they seem,
Cos in a world full of misery, with hatred and greed,
Your problems are another man's dream.

i played dizzy on the spectrum, treasure island dizzy on the c64, and fantasy world dizzy on the amstrad. to my mind, the c64 treasure island dizzy (with the great music to boot!) was the best, and one that i spent the longest time on.

Fantasy World Dizzy for me too, mainly because of the interactions with the other characters! When I first kicked Dozy into the sea I thought it was the best thing ever!

Oh and the Illusion Room puzzle was another bit I really liked! Messed with my head that did!

Crystal Kingdom was... different. Slightly episodic compared to the others which were sprawling adventures with no chapters or levels. As a game I didn't like it & the chunky mode 0 graphics made it look really bad. Looking back, I'd have to say Treasure Island was my favourite.

I liked Treasure Island Dizzy but it cant be the best with the unforgiving one lousy life and almost unavoidable deaths (moving from one sea screen to another to encounter a fish enemy for example) so I will go with the one I found the most fun to finish .. Magic land Dizzy

I couldn't vote for my favourite, Dizzy 3.5.

OK, seriously now. Fantasy World Dizzy every time. I completed the first Dizzy by myself, couldn't get into Treasure Island Dizzy at all (crap inventory system, and the famous 1-life syndrome), FWD I completed myself (after accidentally discovering the Amazing Illusion room), Magicland Dizzy I completed myself, Prince of the YolkFolk was the easiest Dizzy ever (and probably the shortest?), and Spellbound Dizzy... well... I got a good way into it, but never could stick with it long enough to complete it.

The thing about FWD that got me was that I didn't realise I'd done it in the hardest way possible... I only used 2 rocks on the water jump (near the Four-way Warehouse) and I didn't figure out you could tie up the crocodile's mouth, so figuring out the timing and pattern was very necessary.

Great series of games. Why did they bring about Seymour as a "replacement" though?

I think it was maybe so they could make games away from the fantasy setting of Dizzy but have a similar style...could be wrong though...

i read it in the big red software feature in either RG or games retro mag - big red came in and did ports for the dizzy games, and were then trusted to use the license to make other games in the series. however, the dizzy dudes didn't like the idea of hollywood dizzy or whatever the other seymour game was, so they tweaked and released it themselves, without dizzy...*

*may not be 100% accurate because it was awhile ago i read it

Is that the same Big Red Software that did Big Red Racing?

I went for Treasure Island Dizzy. I had it when I was a kid. Never finished it though.
