Making of Dan Dare - DVD extras

So, here are some of the extra captions and images I prepared for the Dan Dare article.

Which presumably originally went by the title: Jimmy Hill In Space.

Here's an interesting response from Martin Wheeler to a question that didn't make it into the article...
Q. What did you think of Dan Dare III, created by Probe?

Martin: I never played it. I remember not liking the graphics - I think they lost the illusion of depth that the first two games had, with Dan running behind pillars, which cast shadows on the back wall. Googling Dan Dare III now, it looks like most Speccy games - flat black background, blocky shading, the Mekon sitting there with yellow blocks zig-zagging across his head like the artist was on acid, and that big ugly GUI panel taking up more than a third of the screen... It looks messy... but that's just my opinion.

Q. Why were the Spectrum and C64 versions so different?

Simon: The C64 game was Andy's creation, very much a "jeux d'autor". Dave Chapman did the Spectrum and Amstrad versions (if memory serves) and was much more practical and efficient. I think he saw it as just the next game in the pipeline and knocked out a version pretty quickly. Andy wanted a different feel on every level, whereas Dave created a good, solid platform game. He was one of the most efficient programmers I've ever worked with, he wrote good, reliable code like unrolling a carpet.

One thing I've always wondered - just how exactly did the Mekon put on that t-shirt? I mean, THAT head fitting through that tiny neck-hole? It ain't gonna happen!
