When Lara touched the Hand of Midas on Tomb Raider was cool. However, when you say "Favourite" I think "Funniest". Some of the FBI deaths on Alien Hominid make me chuckle.

I remember one cut scene from 'The Operative: No-one Lives Forever' that had a great death. You've just free-fallen out of a plane and stolen a parachute from an enemy goon. The enemy goon is then shown falling towards a barn screaming "Please be full of hay! Please be full of hay!" I laughed loads when I first saw that.

Hmm, tough question. I loved Ghosts n Goblins: one hit, there he is in his breeks! 2nd hit, pile of bones. Simple and funny.

I also loved Xain'd Sleena, when your last bit of energy got rudely stolen from you, your body/spacesuit got kind of sucked into a really cool vortex.

Populous 2 on the Amiga, when you give your opponents race the plague and they have all got vultures circling them until they die and vanish into the ground. 8)

Best ones have already been said!!

However, I have a soft spot for Cauldron 2. When you jump of the side of the castle (quite high up) you see your pumpkin dude falling then it switches to a 'heads down' shot and you see the pumpkin falling, falling, falling then crash you die, that's when you hear the witch cackle, brilliant!

Many pumpkins were lost that way just for the sheer hell of it!!!!

got to be the lemmings getting nuked, very cute animals but fantastic fun seeing them all split into millions of pieces simultaneously..... hmm, does that sound sick?

Dark Castle on the macintosh. Fall from a great height and and you'll scrunch up on the ground before bouncing back up a little and lie flat on your back.

Can't go wrong with Dragon's Lair then. It was so "Disneyan" before it got know as "Bluthian". I love that snake thing squeezing him to death.

Then of course, "Blue Wizard is about to die" was pretty memorable too (not to say frantic).

Alex Kidd's ghost floating up to heaven.

Not exactly the greatest death ever but it stands out because I saw it so often! :D

Death by Blender in Brain Dead 13, although in truth the entire game is one huge orgy of death!

Worms

The majority would say an insanely well placed missile wreaking death on 3 or more worms, flinging them into a mine, which goes off and kills more.

Not me though, finding a worm on the end of a cliff and giving them a 'prod' making them tumble to their death in a particularly satisfying yet mundane way.

I'd vote for Moonstone on the Amiga. Sooooo many great deaths! There's one where your knight get smashed by a tree-wielding-tall-bloke which results in a HUGE red fountain spash splurging everywhere. Quality! :D

(I still get disturbed by the "WHEEEUUURRRRRR!!" organ sound effect when the swamp monsters jump out at you)
