I don't have a problem with the fold-out covers, as long as they don't get wrecked in the post...

I suspect it's quite the opposite - as the main cover (beneath the fold-outs) is basically an advert I'd expect there'd have been a reasonable cash injection from using this cover. At the end of the day money is required to keep a niche publication going, so no complaints from me.

In fact, this issue has finally returned to the original non-floppiness which I love so much in my favourite publication. Yay.
Ok....point conceded, if i've got to put up with gimmicky covers to help keep my favourite magazine going, so be it. I don't like it though, it just looks tacky to me.

I'm more interested in knowing exactly how much Nintendo paid for the cover given that the bit in the middle is a shameless ad for their new console.

Edit : I see neuro's brought that up.

I wouldn't mind as much if the cover had used a bit more imagination - where's all the usual touches - I mean , just look at the original RG which used a Game Boy on the cover (issue 7)
blocks form the wors Retro Gamer . And unless (I'm missing it!) why isnt 'issue 63' cleverly integrated into it? I can't believe this design has been done by whoever it is that usually creates RG's cover.

Then again , what's really importnant is what's inside the mag , and this issue rocks for me! :D

Off out to shop-land to get it tomorrow, can't really imagine what it is from what people are saying here, but it's got me curious. Sounds like a two-for-the-price-of-one job? Hmm...

I like this cover. RG has been doing a lot of advertising stuff with its front cover, and this is one of the best-integrated ones. That Bomberman one from a few issues back was a right pain in the arse, it kept flopping all over the place. This one functions well, is nicely eye-catching, is compact and actually makes the ad work well. All the other alternate covers never really felt like plausible RG covers.

Still not planning to buy a DSi, though. Sorry.

The star is missing from the magazine logo, though. No good ideas on what to use? Lookin' at the cover, maybe one of those purple Gameboy buttons'd've looked nifty against the black.
It's called a MEGADRIVE

Every so often, fine, but it would drive me crazy every month. It was a bit annoying trying to read the latest issue because of it...

I like them, I think it's nice and see them as a 'treat'.

No. No no no. Please don't do this again.
A front that can get tangled up in stuff and doesn't slide smoothly over a table of other magazines or whatever is a bad idea. I don't like unwanted folds and crumples.
Also, you are hiding content inside that you have to push at the folding to get to see which again destroys the aestethics(sp?) when the parts are protruding into the air.
