Gynoug on the Megadrive for me. Flying around as an angel and blasting the hell out of evil minions is something you just don't experience in gaming anymore.

Doom on the playstation. The intermittent grunts and roars whilst you were roaming around apparently safe areas was genuinely unsettling. First battle against one of the really bit bad dudes was a real challenge for the skills as well as the nerves. The first game I played late at night with the lights on!
