Mine arrived this morning, hence the thread. The cover's loads of Sega characters in pixel fashion.

Mine also arrived this morning. Haven't had time to read anything, but the first thing I'll be turning to is the Definitive Metal Slug. Great to see my favourite feature back in the mag.

That's a great line-up of features. I look forward to reading it later this week.

Oh goodie, something to look forward to when I get home.

Any pics of the cover yet?

S.T.U.N. Runner - Ohhh yes! looking forward to that, I've great memories of playing that on the Lynx.

Actually, with an Amiga Retroinspection - and the potential of a smashing Amiga cover
Looks like its purely advertising for the crappy megadrivle collection for the 360

But I could be wrong....................

Anyway - here is the cover that won't make it into any future final round of Best cover polls

Hmmm... It's reminiscent of the latest RG 'bookazine'. I had imagined that the pixel art for each character would overlap in a collage effect. The cover looks a little... plain. Still, the internal content should make up for it. I'm hoping that the Amiga retroinspection articles officially declares that the Amiga 500 was a better machine than the Sega Megadrive and anyone who disagrees is wrong.

There's a pic of that version in the feature, what with it being the one decent conversion. When I wrote the piece, I'd forgotten how pretty the game is, although Ed Rotberg was quite dismissive of the game's visuals during the interview.

Fantastic issue, some really great features with the Definitive Metal Slug and and Full Throttle leading the way.

The cover though?, WTF?. Looks like it was knocked together in about 20 minutes by a work experience kid. I have all of those character gifs sitting in a folder on my PC - pretty poor show really, it does look like someone just thought 'F**k it!' at the last minute and threw together whatever was sitting around handy. Who on earth is in charge of the art and layout direction up there now....whoever it is, go to their desk and hide their f**king drugs.

2 entire pages dedicated to mobile phones too the most pointless overrated games 'platform' on the planet - I don't care what anyone says someone, somewhere is getting ad revenue (or trying to), it doesn't belong in the mag (yes its just my opinion, no I don't expect anything to change) but again, this and the cover are the only things marring an otherwise absolutely cracking issue.

Top stuff.

I rather like the cover - it's bold and it stands out. It's not RG's best, but it's reminiscent of that pixel perfect feature, which I thought was fab.

As for the mobile reviews, can anyone who wants to discuss that further please do so in another thread, so this one doesn't degenerate into an argument about the virtues (or lack thereof) of iPhone/iPod touch and other mobile platforms? Ta.
