Poll: Favourite Retro Gamer cover - (round 4) poll closed

Post by neuromancer » Sat Feb 28, 2009 4:11 pm

This is round four of my poll to celebrate my thousandth post (or so it was at the original time of writing)

[Edit: Rounds 1 - 5 and the Face-off are now closed. The Grand Final round can be found here:]
[http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtop ... =1&t=13996]

As the poll will only support ten covers at a time I originally chose ten which I particularly liked, but following SirClive's suggestion I'm now running this in rounds; the winner and runner-up of each round will make it into a Grand Final poll.

Round one can be found here: http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtop ... =1&t=13825

Round two can be found here: http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtop ... =1&t=13830

Round three can be found here: http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtop ... =1&t=13832

Round five (and final) can be found here: http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtop ... =1&t=13835

Galaxian, Doom, Track 'n' Field

Mario, Atari, Contra

Manic Miner, Gauntlet, Star Wars, Star Fox

I love how the Galaxian cover almost gives the impression of looking at the real cabinet in action.

Doom for me, with the Galaxian cover coming in at a close second.

Being a huge fan of Atari I have to say that the cover for that issue was a little disappointing; I think a multi-coloured Fuji logo (the 8-bit machine's trademark party-piece using the display list and 128 colour pallet) would have been a fantastic centre piece.

I picked the Doom cover in the end, but it was a tough choice.

I've added links to all five rounds to the first post on each poll, but it's unlikely that many people re-read the first post, so I'll add all five links here:

Round two can be found here: http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtop ... =1&t=13830

So many great covers! I've chosen Mario. I was swayed by the use of the coins.

Tough choice again - but Manic Miner is such a HUGE retro icon (more so than bloody Mario)......................

Manic Miner FTW

Tough one - it was between Track 'n' Field and Gauntlet but went for Track 'n' Field.

If I could have chosen the worst one (if not the worst ever) it would have been the JSW cover!

Once the heats are over we'll know indirectly which one (or ones in the event of a tie) is the worst by looking at the lowest votes. I quite like the Manic Miner cover myself for its nostalgia value, but there are stronger designs amongst the 43 covers on offer.

Ok who voted for the Star Wars one? It's quite plainly terrible. And to think that was selected over the brilliant Atari vector one too
