Resi 1 is a nasty horrible piece of uncontrollable junk that scared me off the series until Resi 4 came out on the Wii, which is a beautiful work of joy.

The first one is definitely the hardest, but uncontrollable junk... ...oh yeah come to think of it, spose it is really. Oh dear...

I've voted for Resi 4, but if I had the choice I'd vote for Resident Evil Remake for the Gamecube as the best of the 'traditional' Resi games, and for Resi IV as the best game I've played in years.

yeh you guys do have a point - there were a few issues with the first game. but i suppose that's the way it goes. the first game in a series forms the foundations that the others are built on and most issues are gradually ironed out. By res 4 i think the interface and control stuff was sorted. I think Dead space then sort of borrowed all the good bits and built them into their own ui.

Resident Evil 2 for me , loved it , great storyline , very gory and expanded on the original without destroying the creepiness.

Why are so many people voting for RE4? It's the newest style game and has the best graphics, but that dosn't make it the best game.

I voted for Code Veronica, by the way, as I think it genuinly impruved on the gameplay that made the origionals a hit.

RE4 is a good game but it's in a modern style.

how fair is it to compare a game published in 2005 (Resident Evil IV) to game relased in 1996 ?

come come now.... lets be fair!

the original introduced some great concepts from Film such as viewing angles, thick plot and engaging story line. (a lot of which is missing from todays more modern games)

so anyway enough of this cries of fix and rig, lets have some thoughts but more importantly screen shots :)

The Original brought with it a huge atmosphere that I would be lying if i said i didn't jump outa my skin a few times!

Res1

however.... even though RE2 was more of the same, RE3 really took all that and added another level!

Res2

Res3

Veronic was an escape from the art if you will in places, a great game, but in some way some of the original game had lost itself.

now... i would include a screen shot of ResIV... but i figure if you pop into ones local game you will find what you are looking for :p (yes imma baiting... i couldn't help it.... i tried... i fail.... sue me....)

RE2 was a fantastic improvement for the series, but RE4 is the pinnacle in terms of keeping up a good pace of scares and urgency.

Missed a few out though - Resident Evil Zero is worthy of inclusion, and lets not forget Survivor :)
Agreed, but we can forget 'Survivor 2' on the PS2 - can't believe how badly they messed that up!

I also quite enjoyed the two 'RE Outbreak' games; 'Dead Aim' is also worth playing.

Failing that Resi 4.
I'm a fan of Umbrella Chronicles as well but it's not the perfection of RE 4.
It's the first game I've completed for years!
