1942. The theming was superb, the powerups well done and the roll that got you out of certain death situations was genius.

I've got a soft spot for Dragon Spirit. It's brutally hard but always fun to play. And the music's great :D

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON CRESTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

God alone knows how many ten pence pieces I lost to this as a kid, or how much I exploded with joy when a BBC Micro conversion eventually surfaced. There's just something about those waves of different.... things.... that still blows me away to this day. And it was the second game after Pac-Man that I loaded onto my GP2X :)

I've always been a fan of Slap Fight until I played the marvellous 1942 by Capcom.

100% agreed. Excellent choice there.
What do you think to 1943 and 1943: Kai?

Can I plump for Gorf at the arcade? Mainly as it was the first machibe I heard speak other than Metal Mickey - plus I got the Vic20 version that xmas.

Moon Cresta is a close 2nd.

Light Force on the Spectrum.

Probably the first vertical shooter I really spent any time on.

I enjoy Ikaruga even though it takes some serious practice to get anywhere near good.
