Yeah check out issue 232 feedback thread for the state mine arrived in.
Ironically the replacement arrived in the plastic (therefore water proof) bag - go figure.

We've made the relevant department aware of the damage water causes now but we're not moving away from this going forward. My issue has also turned up in terrible condition so I feel your disappointment. The replacements will also be arriving in non-plastic bags shortly as Future is moving away from them completely as they're safer for the environment.

I don't get how they get this way. My White dwarf comes in a paper envelope and arrives pristine every month. The quality of the envelope seems roughly the same.

Just depends on the postman. Mine was delivered yesterday and squashed in the letterbox but the envelope and mag were fine.
And yeah i get other post in paper envelopes and they're all good, Worth having a friendly chat with your postman if it arrives in a total mess every month

The problem is that they are shipping a weighty item that that can move around in transit. If a standard light letter envelope gets a bit wet it's not the end of the world. However, the mag is weighty fully of retro goodness, and has room to move around during transport, the paper easily perishes.
The mag can move around just fine in a plastic bag and you can pour water on it all day. Future has prioritized green-signalling over quality and appears not trust its customer base to be able to recycle. Also, if it wanted, it could ship in a biodegradable bag, as other magazines we recieve do.

You know I'm slowly beginning to think the same.

The relevant department knew a year ago, their director emailed me!
At least asking for a replacement occasionally yields one, surely sound business sense says that an issue printed but given out as a replacement or damaged in transit isn’t making a profit?
Recycled paper envelopes can be strong, they just need to be better quality, thicker. As this costs a fraction more then I won’t hold my breath.
