Re: MSX coverage
MSX was very popular in my area more people had them than Amstrads or C64s I think it was because it was sold in independent tv/hi-fi shops rather than chains like WH Smiths / Dixons so in a rural area people tended to buy from the local shop. The problem was these shops tended not to sell many game...

Re: New generation console with most exclusive games
The original XBOX and the 360 are a poor mans PC without the mouse and keyboard. If you have a decent PC you eventually get versions of nearly all 360 games. FPS, simulation, strategy and especially RTS games are much better on the PC. PS3 exclusives like Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, Valkyria Chr...

Re: Any MSX collectors here?
You need a japanese Pioneer msx or any ntsc msx and a Pioneer Palcom ER-101 expansion module. You need to connect it to a Pioneer CLD-9000, LD-7000, LD-5000, LD-v500 or LDP-150 laser disk player. I don't have any laser disks. It would be an expensive proposition to import the hardware needed http://...

Re: Any MSX collectors here?
I used to have a Sony MSX in the 80s. At the time my family believed the hype that it would be a standard like VHS was for VCRs. It was later sold to finance an Atari ST - a big mistakes as some of the Konami MSX games had better playability than anything on the ST. The Atari was better for work tho...

3. Panzer General
4. Gradius / Nemesis - played it originally on an MSX then I spent alot of time playing the original arcade version

Re: Genuinely iconic 8-bit games?
MSX - Penguin Adventure
C16 - never used one. I doubt it has one
BBC - Elite
CPC - most games were converted from other platforms or arcade. Sorcery looked good at the time
Atari 800 - Star Raiders
Spectrum - Knight Lore was a real step forward
C64 - Winter games

Re: best version? Arkanoid - Revenge Of Doh
The Famicom & MSX cartridge versions come with a special dial controller. I think I have the MSX2 & Atari ST versions stored away. I will compare them if I have time.

Re: School Computers
At primary school there were no computers but we had a Speak & Spell. I remember we watched a TV program about computers once and the teacher passed round a plastic bag with some microchips in for us to look at Junior school had 4 BBCs one of which was a model A. I only ever saw these computers used...

A screen from the game Antarctic Adventure (released 1983 MSX, Colecovision and later Famicom) can be seen briefly in the introduction of Gradius ReBirth that has just been released on the Wii

I stopped subscribing to this magazine a while ago. I did not think the articles were well enough researched (and losing issues when the publisher went bust puts you off). More depth and less breadth would be the only way to get me back I bought this issue for the MSX coverage. My first computer was...
