Re: The decline and fall of western game development

As far as I'm concerned, it's rising everywhere. I've enjoyed a lot more games in the past couple of years than I ever have before, largely thanks to the availability of lower-budget, more experimental games on services like XBLA, along with the shift in market this brings. Ubisoft has seriously thr...

Re: Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia

Funnily enough, I remember saying (must've been on a different forum, because I can't find it here) the "Dreamcast collection" should've included a different set of four games; and it's the same four I always mention (or five if you count the one sequel). Dreamcast - Shenmue, Shenmue II, Chu Chu Roc...

Re: Could the next gen be disc free?

But true, yes, the question would be whether Microsoft would want to put money into Sony's hands. I very much doubt that Microsoft actually cares all that much whether Sony gets the money or not; it's more a case of the fact that licensing the format would cost them quite a bit, and there are proba...

Re: Could the next gen be disc free?

Disc-free will just mean we'll have to have card after card (or many HDDs) since you wouldn't be able to delete anything for fear of it not being there again if you wanted to re-download it. Imagine buying £400 worth of games, deleting them all to make room for £400 more; only to come to find that ...

Re: SOR2 - The series

I find Bare Knuckle III the best, mainly due to the fact that the other two are so slow they bore the hell out of me by the time I've finished the first level. Tons of depth, like specials that don't harm your health (but only if you use them sparingly), extra unlockable moves, a couple of secret ar...

Re: Street fighter X Tekken and DLC bitching

1. Yes, if it's on the bloody disc FROM THE START, people are entitled to it. Why? Because they bought, and paid for..... wait for it, this is hard, I know..... they paid for THE BLOODY DISC. Dont..... even try to reason this one a different way. Kinda doesnt work. The analogy I used DOES work beca...

Fair enough. Seems silly to me that something will never ever be retro, but as you said, it's your opinion, and I can't argue with that.

Re: Street fighter X Tekken and DLC bitching

Wheras with Capcom..... some of them are SO complete that hackers are able to PLAY as them. I'm sorry. No amount of sugarcoating can make that sound like a good thing. That's wrong in SO many ways. Even Activision hasnt tried that one yet, and THAT is saying something. So I ask again: if they weren...

Re: Street fighter X Tekken and DLC bitching

BB went and did this just fine, with the DLC for Platinum, Makoto, and Valk. They simply updated the game with a patch PROPERLY when the DLC for those guys finally came out, and it worked fine. Players did not need to buy those to play against those that do, and no horrible shady practices were use...

Re: Official Feedback Issue 99

Let's do the whole thing properly: Both selected modes use 1bpp + one byte per 8x8 character cell for colour. Spectrum: 256 * 192 / 8 + 32 * 24 = 6144 + 768 = 6192 bytes C64, in standard high-resolution bitmap mode: 320 * 200 / 8 + 40 * 25 = 8000 + 1000 = 9000 bytes This leaves 49152 - 6192 = 42960 ...

Re: The all new 2012 'What is Retro?' thread!

The moment the games started being created with a 3d thinking behind it all was the day it isn't really retro. All you have to do is to re-tool the assets to new hw and a new resolution (I know that is simplifying it insanely much, but in principle m'kay?) and you can sell the same game over and ov...
