Re: Ubisoft killing manuals

The thing that's missed is that the old game manuals were all part of the game experience. Gunship on the C64 came with a large manual with a lot of detail about allied and enemy vehicles, and lots of interesting background information. The images also doubled as copy protection. The Infocom games s...

Re: USB C64 style joytick with 99 C64 games - Avaliable on Play

I just got one of the USB Competition Pro sticks, and compared it to my genuine 1980's version. It's much more 'clicky' than the original, where the microswitches are much quieter. Personally I think the microswitches have too much travel compared to the original ones. My original Comp Pro has leaf ...

Re: Retro Rewind (Sheffield) April 10th and 11th 2010

SIR86, a big thanks for letting me do my fanboy bit and signing your game, then going as far as digging out old E3 promo exclusive stuff for it and bringing it in the next day. And then giving me the deal of the weekend on the Virtual Pinball controller - I'm loving that thing (though I'm not so su...

Re: Retro Rewind (Sheffield) April 10th and 11th 2010

When I set up my C64 at home after the event my 9 year old daughter went crazy over it, and was really interested. I'm sure now she would have loved the event, and I wish I'd brought her along. I too think the event could have supported twice the number of guests. Was there a limit on the number in ...

Re: Retro Rewind (Sheffield) April 10th and 11th 2010

Had a great time over the weekend, thanks to Shaun and all those others who made it possible. Was a big thrill to play on some systems I've not seen working since I was a kid, and to meet with friends, and make new ones. I was surprised about how fiercely anti-C64 the speccy crowd still are. I guess...

Re: Retro Rewind (Sheffield) April 10th and 11th 2010

So is anyone going to be going to the pub (Devonshire Cat?) this evening?I don't get home from work 'till 7pm, so I could be in town around 8 for a drink if anyone's interested in meeting up.

I'd be up for a pub-meet on the Friday night. Not really into clubbing.

Re: Retro Rewind (Sheffield) April 10th and 11th 2010

I have a working Commodore 1702 monitor I could bring if there's a C64 there that needs an authentic C64 era screen.

Re: Retro Rewind (Sheffield) April 10th and 11th 2010

I'm a bit gutted that a mint boxed c64c computer I was planning to sell at the event doesn't work. (black screen fault) :(

Is it still worth bringing along to sell? I imagine that it could be cannibalised for spare parts. It's a pity because it looks brand new.

Hmm... maybe I could charge for autographs. I'll have to get a bunch of pictures printed

Re: Retro Rewind (Sheffield) April 10th and 11th 2010

My ticket turned up today, thanks!

I've got my T-Shirt ready too, so just got to sort through all my stuff to see if there's anything I've got to sell.

Let me know which pub you're going to be in on Friday night and I'll join you all after work. I get back home about 7pm.

Re: Retro Rewind (Sheffield) April 10th and 11th 2010

This might be an opportunity to sell on some of my retro stuff that's been piling up in my attic. I wonder if anyone would be interested in a couple of Acorn Electrons with tape decks and software? I got them from a church fate many years ago, and I think it's about time I sold them on! I've also go...

Now that was a long, long time ago

I'm getting a T-Shirt printed for the occasion, so I should be easy to recognise. :D

Looking forward to meeting old friends and making new ones very much.
