Re: R3PLAY 'The Arcade, Retro & Video Gaming Expo' - Blackpo

A colleague has now decided he's coming with me on Sunday, but of course he's left it too late to buy a ticket online.

I know tickets are available on the door, but are there a limited number? Will he have a problem getting hold of one?

Oh, if anyone from the Sheffield area needs a lift there and back on the Sunday, I've got space in my car.

Re: R3PLAY 'The Arcade, Retro & Video Gaming Expo' - Blackpo

Right, my ticket's booked for the Sunday. I'll probably be driving in as it's a couple of hours drive from home. Anyone know the best place to park? Is there parking at the conference centre?

I've not even bought my ticket yet - I'll do that tonight. I can't make both days, so I'll be going on the Sunday. I may well be driving myself there.

Anyone from Sheffield going to R3PLAY? Would be more fun to go with someone than on my own.

Re: The Psion Organiser - did it play games?

There was an amazing Lords Of Midnight conversion for the Psion Series 3. I showed it to the games' original author Mike Singleton once, and he was totally amazed a handheld computer could play it.

Re: Greatest ever Atari XL/XE games

My first job was in a computer shop selling Atari 8-bit computers, so I have very fond memories of them. I did own one at one point. The games I remember the most, and have the most affection for are: Miner 2049'er (Cheat code = 2137826861, the telephone number of the publisher!) Fort Apocalypse Dre...

Re: Whats the longest loading time ever in a game?

One of the first games I got for the C64 was Revenge of the Mutant Camels. One side had a normal slow-loader which took over 20 minutes. The other side had a fast loader which took less than 2! The Atari 8-Bit computer tape deck was terrible - very slow loading, plus it was stereo with one track use...

Re: Independence War Deluxe Edition on www.GoG.com

Cheers Antiriad. I was going to post about this myself, but I thought it was too much of a shameless plug. I can't take credit for this as it happened as part of Atari's back catalogue being given to GOG. The first I knew about it was when GOG asked me about my I-War paper models. They were a...

Re: EA to lock out online on used games

I started off working in computer shops, back in the early 80's. They had pre-owned console games back then too, but there was a significant difference. In those days the cartridges were boxed in cardboard boxes that got very tatty really easily, so the brand new games were obviously worth more than...

Re: EA to lock out online on used games

I think it's fair enough to be honest. Me too. I know a lot of people who only buy pre-owned. That puts nothing back into the industry and can only be damaging. I've real beef (err... vegetarian Quorn-style stuff at any rate!) with the huge focus on pre-owned in specialist games retailers today. Gl...

Re: Scanlines in emulators

Some of the filters on Mame32 are pretty good. There's one that emulates an aperture grille on a CRT. It looks amazingly realistic compared to normal scanline emulation or bilinear filters. The PAL emulation on Vice is reasonably good. You forget how blurry the C64 was on a standard TV. Stella now h...
