Re: Where did you shop?

Hmmm, that rings a bell now you mention it... I think I bought my second Dreamcast from them (which I still have) for my 19th birthday (or thereabouts) but I didn't realise it had been going that long. Don't think I went there more than three or four times though.

Re: What grinds your gears ?

Companies who think one purchase from them entitles them to spam you for the rest of eternity. Got an my first newsletter the other week from a company I'd bought blank CDs from once in 2006! I try to avoid buying from companies who do it but they pretty much all do nowadays. I know I can just unsub...

Re: SNK Handheld

Saw this for the first time yesterday - I'd been aware that there was a handheld in the pipeline but I didn't know about the docking part of it. As someone who dreamed of a Neo Geo back in the day, it looks tempting but realistically, I'm not sure how often I'd end up playing on it...

Re: Where did you shop?

WHSmiths was always a treat too - upstairs for the magazines and downstairs for the games - as was the local toy shop called Tumbles (RIP). Was thrilled to find a photo of that place on Flickr a few months ago! Remember TNT Games on London Road? That was a good one as well... Was that in the early-...

Re: Cheating sports games?

I went through several PS2 pads while playing PES on the PS2 out of sheer frustration and rage at the CPU cheating and haven't touched it on the current gen. FIFA hides its cheating a bit better but it's still there - the amount of stoppage-time goals that come when the ball's magically fallen to a ...

Re: What were the best game shops around your area..

HMV - you had to get the escalator up and then go to the back of the floor to find the games but it was worth it. Couldn't believe the price of Street Fighter 2 there, £65!? :o Virgin - had a smaller store before they moved elsewhere in the city centre and became a Megastore. My dad stood around bor...

After seeing this thread, I mentioned this to my mates a few weeks ago and they seemed up for it. Wolverhampton isn't too far away at all...

Re: Where did you shop?

In Liverpool city centre, there was a games shop called Software Shop (I think?) which had all the 8- and 16-bit computers and games. It closed around 1993 when I was 10 but I vividly remember going there in 1991 with my mate and his Dad to get his Spectrum +3 and as a +2 owner, being jealous of his...

Re: Catalogues!

We always got every edition of the Argos and Index catalogues - loved flicking through them, especially around Xmas time. Wish we'd kept one or two from the late 80s/early 90s!

Re: Your Christmas gaming memories?

Christmas '92 - Sonic 2 on the Master System. Played it to death and before Sonic 1 too, although I thought 1 was the better of the two when I did get to play it... Christmas '93 - F1 on the Master System. Was really into the sport at the time Christmas '02 - PS2 with Pro Evo 2 and GTA: Vice City. C...

Re: Retro Gamer - Google play magazines

I've just bought an Android tablet (Toshiba Excite 13) so this looks tempting but I refuse to buy anything with DRM - what format do magazines from the Play Store come in? I have all 3 RG eMag DVDs - having sold off 20 or so old physical issues - and just copy the PDFs to my NAS and load them from t...
