Re: DOOM - 20 years on and still going strong

I just discovered a PC mod that allows you to play Doom / Doom 2 (and any other non-graphically changed WADs) in the style of the Playstation games. Meaning high res visuals, mouse look etc = playstation version's lighting and music, and slowed down monsters and edited architecture. It is excellent!...

Re: DOOM - 20 years on and still going strong

Some interesting opinions on Doom here, not all of them are valid in my opinion haha No one has mentioned WADS yet, the abundance of extra maps and mods (which are still made today) are a testament to the greatness of Doom. Someone mentioned that the Jag version was the only one Carmack programmed,...

Re: DOOM - 20 years on and still going strong

That was a nice overview, Chiptune. :D After reading it I got all moist for some Doom action and looked up the Classic Doom Complete collection on PSN. I was hoping that it included the Playstation versions of Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom as I love the atmosphere that is created by the music and the...

Re: DOOM - 20 years on and still going strong

PS1 Doom kicked creepy ass. The biggest and best verion bar none. I assume you're talking about 'Final Doom' which was indeed very good for a PS1 game. The original 'Doom' on PS1 was good too, however have you tried the N64 version? Bigger and better. I never really got on that well with N64 Doom. ...

Re: DOOM - 20 years on and still going strong

great article Chippers, thanks for posting, you have clearly put a lot of work into it. The playstation has the best version, and as you rightly say the jag version is rendered almost unplayable due to that abominable controller. Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. :D Do you play Doom at all on modern s...

Re: DOOM - 20 years on and still going strong

Yes, Serious Sam 3 :D I love that game... No f'ing around, just shoot everything. I really enjoyed Serious Sam 3. I bought it on steam when it came out and whizzed through it over a weekend. It was old school, no frills, fun. The Egyptian setting gets pretty old after a while though. Still, I would...

Re: DOOM - 20 years on and still going strong

I saw that video just the other day. Made me laugh. New FPS games are horrible. Every single one ruined by QTE's, unskippable cutscenes, awful voice acting / story, and loads of filler material in the form of fetch quests. Shamefully I have never played RAGE.. is that worth playing or does it not re...

Re: DOOM - 20 years on and still going strong

Just had a look and this part is complete and utter fail and ruins any credibility you *MIGHT* have had: The Atari Jaguar was home to a respectable port but, for reasons unknown, had absolutely no music during gameplay. Plus you had to contend with the censored poor Jaguar control pad, which resemb...

Re: DOOM - 20 years on and still going strong

Excellent article and a good read mate. I look forward to Part 2. Thanks Tachi :D Part 2 is in the works. I think it will involve a lot more effort than part 1 due to all the mods I have to play and take screenshots of, though I will keep it to the same length (or slighltly less) than part 1. I wou...

Re: "Capcom Arcade Cabinet" coming to various consoles

ChipTune do you genuinely like old games? I agree with you on Avengers, it's a right duffer, but the other two are still really good. Yes, of course I like old games. Maybe I was harsh on 1943 as it is fun. But Black Tiger is balls. Just a charmless and boring button masher. the similar Magic Sword...
