Re: What are you currently playing?

I got Pacman Championship Edition 2 for a few bucks on Steam, usually cant go wrong with Pacman, but I hated it! It was like playing Pacman on bad drugs, just really really didn't like it' at all. Whereas the first Championship Edition I didn't mind, I think for me the second strays off course from ...

Re: Mini Sega Megadrive anyone?!

I've not been interested in any of the mini iterations, I reckon everything eventually will get a go, we'll probably see N64 mini, PS1 mini, etc. I think the only thing that might possibly interest me in this line would be an Amiga mini, with games fully configured already, no guru meditations to wo...

It's hard separating my own favourites from what is objectively the best of a genre. Then again, i'm not going to suggest games i don't like even if they are considered the best by most!

Re: Billy Mitchell high scores wiped

But surely at some stage in all these years he must have 'completed' the game on a cab in front of a crowd or with credible witnesses? Obv playing on MAME isn't quite the same as original hardware, but can't be THAT much easier? apparently he did, once, he got to the kill screen in front of a live ...

Re: Billy Mitchell high scores wiped

The crazy thing is, he is undoubtedly a genius, and he beat pacman and DK in the same year or thereabouts when they came out, which is just staggering. There never was any need for any funny business.. so its just sad really.

Re: Billy Mitchell high scores wiped

that's pretty shocking to me.. I did actually like to think Billy Mitchell was a decent guy underneath his 'persona' but if this is true then for him to let Wiebe get dragged through the mud like that is despicable.

Now they just need to bring out King Of Kong 2.0 with all the latest updates!

Re: Bubble Bobble - The Perfect Game?

I still think the ST version is superb. The later Saturn version is arcade perfect. cheers, don't think ive played either version so something to try out. The only truly lamentable version I ever played was on my beloved Apple II.. but then again that was a tough, tough ask before even trying to co...

Re: Bubble Bobble - The Perfect Game?

So which do people think is the ultimate version? The arcade? Amiga version? C64? Any others?

The arcade version I found just a tad too difficult, for me, of the ones I have played, the Amiga version played best, was slightly slower and that suited me fine.

Re: Bubble Bobble - The Perfect Game?

for a long time, for me it was the game closest to 100%. Its still a game from the 8-bit (and 16-bit era - I love the Amiga version) that I will play and at least dig in for a while, its still a great game with 1 player but really you need 2 players for the later levels, or I'm just not that good :o...

Re: What games would you like to see remastered?

Any number of PS1 games that with a modern makeover would look fab. How bout a modern Yars revenge?! :) Agree, so many great games could be revitalised with updated graphics in particular. Destruction Derby is one that I reckon could do with an overhaul, I also think Medal of Honor 1 and 2 would be...

FEAR, Crysis, Dragon Age: Origins, Mafia, Dead Space, Syndicate, Deus Ex.
Mafia, yes! What a gem that was.. I remember when the sequel finally came out and then waiting for III to finally patch things up but alas, the original remained vastly superior to both.

Re: What's your favourite Toaplan arcade game?

It was to be either Knuckle Bash or Truxton II but I'll go for the latter as I did spend quite a bit on that in the arcades, to me it was the superior shoot em up at the time.

Galaga was a sequel! Galaxian is the original!

I would say Robocop, Outrun, Double Dragon, Tetris and Lemmings.
g_ddammit...

games where the original was best

Games tend to be improved with sequels - well not always but with technology and skills being updated all the time its usually the case. But for me, some have never been beat - which originals do you think have not been bested? For instance I reckon Wonderboy, Donkey Kong and Bubble Bobble were 3 th...
