Re: games where the original was best

As for the Outrun debate. I struggle to say which is best. The only thing that lets the original down for me is the inconsistency between courses. Some are amazing while others seem a little empty and bland. Having said that, the road routine on the original is astonishing for the time. I can't thi...

Re: From the forum: 185

After begging my dad for a coin, I popped 20c into one of these amazing looking new machines stood outside the supermarket, and time seemed to stand still as I was taken off into this captivating and all-consuming new gaming universe, to which I have merrily found myself addicted to without challeng...

Re: Spectrum Vega Plus Poll

I actually want one now! The 12-odd protos they'll send out to placate the angry hordes will likely become worth a fortune in the near future.

It's not made clear from the link but if you click the 'update' tab you can download the game. It's a Gig but seriously worth it!
thanks for that, I didn't realise there was a game, I'll certainly take a look, cheers.

Re: What did you prefer: cassettes or 5¼" floppies?

hmm.. I have to try and remember. A box of 10 3.5" floppies was about $10 for the cheapos and $20 for the better stuff. In pounds I would imagine it'd be about half those figures. Tapes, the cheaper ones were about $1 each and the more expensive ones about $3.50. So roughly thereabouts the same in c...

Re: What did you prefer: cassettes or 5¼" floppies?

I started with Apple II with 5 1/2" floppies and when the Vic 20 came along and then the C64 where I had tape systems, I felt it was a distinct downgrade. Don't get me wrong - both tapes and floppies were the bane of my existence back then suddenly not working when you most wanted them to, but I def...

Re: Experience of importing a classic arcade machine to the UK.

that's some odyssey! I'd have no hair left if I went through that! :D Boy, I just couldn't settle for one system... no way. That'd drive me nuts, having to choose one, single system. Maybe it'd be a pinball machine.. perhaps Indiana Jones and the Had of Fate. But I dunno. Thanks for sharing anyway!

Re: Spectrum Vega Plus Poll

What a shame. The Spectrum is one machine I haven't yet explored to any degree, and the idea and look of the Vega+ would be something I would have been very tempted to get, but I stayed away from backing because of past known experiences with hardware & crowdfunding. Having said that, if by some mir...

Re: What are you currently playing?

Mafia is still an incredible achievement to this day. The storytelling is still on another level, it blows stuff like GTA completely out of the water in that regard. The twists in the game are legit brilliant as well, and while 2 was not as good, it still managed to tell a good story (no idea about...

Re: What are you currently playing?

After not having played one of my favourite games for some years, loaded up Mafia seeing as though it works on Windows 10 beautifully (and didn't on Win 7). Wow, such a difference from playing it last time, sandboxies have certainly come a long way. But the acting.. the script.. just genius! What an...

Re: CBM64 or C64?

it just got truncated as time went by didn't it? Kind of like the IBM PC, then just became PC. But CBM64, no, I don't use that term at least anymore, don't think I ever have

Re: What's Your Favorite Driving/Racing Game Ever?

Seeing this thread topic made me realise just how few racers Ive played of late. And my favourites.. hmm lets see now. If I had to choose one, as op requests in title, I would have to say Dirt 2. The feel of it is just perfect for mine, and the tracks were designed so very well, I couldn't stop play...
