Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I'm pricing up Intellivisions on Ebay. Mine gave up a few years ago and it's the one console that, thanks to the weird jopypad, simply isn't the same via emulation.

Re: What are you currently playing?

Yakuza 3. I love Shenmue 2 back in the day and never realised that these games were supposed to be pretty similar. I've nothing like the sort of time available that this seems it's going to demand, but being off work for a few days I've picked it up and have really enjoyed the first few hours. Total...

Re: Who gets collection urges?

I used to have mad collection urges, and for five years I had the collection to go with it. Then my relationship, and life collapsed, and I lost the lot. The shooter part of my Saturn collection went to Darran from RG as a matter of fact, for about half of what it was worth. If you're reading, have ...

Can't believe Nintendo seem content to let F-Zero and PilotWings rot. I can maybe uinderstand to a degree with F-Zero as I guess it wouldn't look much more impressive than the GC version, but PilotWings is tailor made for the Wii. It baffles me completely.

Re: Rainbow Islands - Best Moment

Getting the four rainbow power up. Then realiasing it's useless because they vanish so quickly. I still get a kick out of getting the diamonds in the correct order and getting into the secret rooms as well.

Re: Your Favourite Sprites!

The original Sonic on MD.

Everything from Manic Miner as already mentioned.

And, strangely enough, I still love the characters from the original Street Fighter.

Deus Ex. I'm not normally the sort to take Eurogamer on either, but I so badly want to believe their preview of this, which constantly hints that it may actually be as good as the original.

Re: Gaming Goals

It used to be to complete a Cave shooter on one credit, but as I get older that looks less and less likely. Now, it would just to be the 1cc on Puzzle Bobble 2. I've loved the game for too many years to count, and made it to the final set of stages many a time but always fallen short with a screen o...

Re: Rainbow Islands - Best Conversion

I think the C64 version was one of the machine's last great conversions, looked lovely but, more importantly, played like a dream.

Re: Rainbow Islands - Why is it a classic?

Because as other have stated, the basic mechanics and gameplay are simple enough for anyone to get to grips with, yet underneath there's a huge amount of depth and a truly fantastic scoring system that really rewards intelligent play. Never did understand why it wasn't designed as a portrait display...
