Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I'm not the biggest fan of fighting games, so when buying I'd kinda discounted/ignored it until I went through the box of stuff when I got it home and saw that the Tatsunoko side had Gatchaman characters.

You're right on the Zapper though. Defo need to get one.

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I bought a second had Wii there last week, came with nearly 70 titles, most of them Wii essentials, so I'll be kept busy of the Xmas holidays. Never had a proper go of a Wii until now, but enjoying the few games of the sizable stack I've gotten round to playing briefly. Standouts so far - Tatsunoko ...

Re: Recommendations for cheap Saturn games

Picked up Crusader there for <€10 - Really great game, despite being slightly different to the PC versions.

Not the greatest game ever but Tunnel B1 is crude but decent enough for a quick blast, which you can usually get for peanuts.

Re: Horizontal vs Vertical Shooters

I spent the weekend playing Radiant Silvergun on the Saturn - First time getting a go of it. Have to say it certainly lives up to the hype as one of the best ever. Ikaruga should be up for a blast this coming weekend too. Though I would have no preference over vertical or horizontal shooters. Either...

Re: Greatest consoles of all time

That NES thing is bit weird innit?… Well I suppose my opinions are possibly informed more by personal experiences and preferences rather than solid sales figures etc which I am somewhat ignorant of. As kid who grew up in Dublin in the late 80's though, the Nintendo NES seemed to me to be everywhere....

Re: Greatest consoles of all time

Nintendo NES - I think from a Euro perspective this is where mass-console gaming really began . Best get your hard hat and flame suit ready :D Whyso? I always thought the Nintendo NES, in The UK and Ireland anyway , was where mass-awareness of gaming consoles really began to take hold? I mean, yep ...

Re: Greatest consoles of all time

Atari 2600/VCS - One of the first out of the starting gates. Iconic laminated wood, switches and 'those' joysticks which have become a symbol synonymous with video games as a whole. Sure the graphics were blocky and basic, the sounds were harsh and crude but it was and still is pure magic in plastic...

Re: Nintendo 64 Favourites/Collection

I bought an N64 with wages earned from my first proper summer Job. I was getting paid an absolute pittance, getting taxed heavily while my tax details were being processed by revenue. I took me about 6 weeks to scrape the cash together. I was so bloody chuffed with the machine when I got it though. ...

Re: The most unfairly treated system/console

The PC engine was released in 1987 in Japan, years ahead of the TG16 in the US and EU which landed '89 and '90 respectively. So it was ahead of its time in Japan upon release, but competing with the MD and SNES in EU and US by the time it saw the light of day, which it did not stand a chance agains...

Re: The most unfairly treated system/console

There are loads of failed consoles that were actually really great, but due to bad software support, price etc they failed. I think one of Sega's problems was rushing their hardware to market ahead of the competition - Probably among the reason's why both the Saturn and Dreamcast failed. For me thou...

Re: gta v .... 4 days to go :D

Just braved the wet weather to pick up my copy! It shall, however, remain in its shrink wrap until the weekend, when I plan to ensconce my self in my game cave for the duration.

Re: Trade in or keep

Having regretted it every time I sold on a computer or console years ago, I have always been reluctant to let go of my stuff for quite a long time now. If you are not planning on playing them at the moment why not put them into storage for the time being? I know with a lot of people storage might be...

Re: amiga memorires

I remember I had just reluctantly sold the family Sinclair ZX48 and combined the earnings with birthday money to purchase a Commodore 64 Light Fantastic bundle. Friends of my parents, who's son I used to trade speccy games with traded up also, but they got the Amiga Batman pack instead (they had mon...

Re: Computers in education experiences

Primary school we used the Apple iie. We had 3 or 4 of them and they where used for Logo mainly. I am guessing about '85 or so. We were given free access to them for a period of time once a week a few years later, and we used them mainly for Lemonade and Fraction fever. There used to be the odd figh...
