Re: The System/Computer you owned for the least time?

NES. Got one in '93, a market trader who had a video games stall that I used to visit regularly had a complete, boxed PAL NES system (complete with SMB3) and I had Ecco The Dolphin and Two Crude Dudes on PAL Megadrive, and basically in trade-in value I got a straight swap, with £2 extra on my behalf...

Re: Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast, PS2 or Xbox

I think the PS2 version is incredible , easily one of the best racers on the machine, and most definitely one of the best-looking games on it (without wishing to sound weird, but it "really does look pretty much identical to the ace-looking Xbox version!!!" ) It's pretty easy to get hold of, I've ST...

Re: A theory about Mike Haggar from Final Fight...

^It's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one who has considered this possibility. 8) I mean, Haggar's in an office, wears trousers, office shoes, favours braces as a mean to hold said trousers up, there's something 'hardboiled' and officious about the bloke (he's sooooo Sin City ). I'll stop s...

Re: Panzer Dragoon: yeah or meh?

I remember giving Zwei a chance, even though I wasn't mad keen on the original PD. I remember getting it cheap from a verrrry early Gamestation in Bradford in about late '96/early '97. I've never played Zwei since then, but I remember I played it religiously for weeks on end, I pretty much milked it...

Re: Giana Sisters Ds

I have to say I DLed this out of curiosity, not even knowing of its existence. It's very similar to the Amiga game, but with boosted-up graphics, loads of pastel colours. The gameplay is spot-on, yet still feels very German , Aryan almost. It's alright, though, but still feels more like a very enhan...

Re: Megadrive platformer help

Marvel Land / Talmit's Adventure is super-cool. Even Toki (Goes Ape Spit) isn't baaad on the MD, despite some reviews, it's quite a relaxed affair. Wardner's great, too, again (like Toki) maybe not as good as the arcade, but still worthy.

Re: A theory about Mike Haggar from Final Fight...

^Yeah, the Jesse Ventura point's a good one, I'd say his influence is also DEFINITELY part of the Haggar, especially with the wrestling moves (and the 'Andore' Andre The Giant-alike, a big WWF influence here) but the name, and the fact he wears brogue-type shoes, would also suggest the Stacy Keach c...

Re: What are you currently playing?

Saints Row 2 on 360 coupled with Contra 3 on SNES (via PC emu). I love Contra 3 to death, I still have the original (bordered and altered!) cart for my UK Super Nintendo but it's a faff setting CRT stuff up now I use an HD monitor for my consoles instead of my old telly. One day, when I have enough ...

A theory about Mike Haggar from Final Fight...

I had a bit of a "brainwave" yesterday (even though it made me kick myself a bit). Now, having been such a massive fan of Final Fight for years, since it came out in the arcades, then on the SNES etc, I've often pondered who'd be cast if they made a film of it. My ideal actor to play Haggar had alwa...

Re: Wonder Boy in Monster Land TAKE 2!!!

The 'Bikkuriman' influence was purely cosmetic, and ONLY truly affected the static images of the shopkeepers etc. I first played Wonderboy In Monster Land in Bridlington in early 1989. It was one of the best, most progressive arcade games I'd played, and I was on it for a good three hours. To get th...

Re: Best Ever Budget Title? (or your favourite)

'Cos I got my C64 quite late, Dec. '87, I use to LOVE the (Mastertronic) Ricochet releases that came out over the following year, I got proper hooked on Skate Rock by Bubble Bus, and Impossible Mission became my God, IK+ my Jesus, despite me being completely and utterly un-Christian in my beliefs ("...

Re: Introduce yourself

My name is Dan Y., I've been reading Retro Gamer for almost seven years or so, I'm in my mid 30s and grew up directly in the Space Invaders/Star Wars era, saw and felt pretty much ALL that retro gaming goodness, yet I look 24(!) and I am also an NTSC-UK forumite.

Re: Hot Topic - Best Durell game

Got to be Turbo Esprit or Saboteur, both on the Speccy. Turbo was so atmospheric and 'futuristic', and Saboteur so beautifully playable. Saboteur wins by a tenth of a millimetre. I had Combat Lynx on the Acorn Electron, part of that 'Five Star' Beau Jolly compilation, I don't think I understood how ...
