Re:

A lot of these 'obscure' computers are featured in The Home Computer Course. I dug my copies out of my mum's loft recently, great to see the old spreads I used to drool over. Could be interesting to see how the games compare on these systems. I expect most of them will be emulated, there are a fair...

Old machines - remade.

Does anyone think that there would be a market for classic machines remade to look cosmetically identical to the original machines(with the exception of some interface tweaking) - but with updated hardware inside? e.g :- an exact copy of the classic 48k rubber key speccy featuring an internal storag...

They made it across the border too ;)
Well - I certainly got mine "across the border" - yes it was a good year, first electricity arrived, then the wheel, then my Colecovision! :)

Re: MZ-80K / MZ-80A

Yep!

Remember both of them, first time I ever experienced having to load in an operating system from tape!

Still loved the look of the machines though - a lot nicer looking than the PET, dont remember much in the way of games for them though.

Can't remember which issue, wasn't that long ago. But I do remember the colourful (!) double page of screenshots..... Dont believe that for a minute - unless you count green, yellow, red and blue as colourful :D - if there is one thing the Dragon was never known for - it was it's rainbow like screen ...

Re: Whither Intellivision?

Intellivision and Colecovision were both readily available in the U.K. I had both - and would certainly like to see a retrospective on both. While the intellivision was capable of a greater degree of graphical detail than the 2600 - I cant help but feel that the speed and colour pallette of the 2600...

Re: TRS-80 Model I/III/4?

I too would love to see a retrospective on the Tandy machines, would also be nice to see the CoCo range in there as well. I think most retro gamers of the 8 bit era will be aware of the CoCo's too a certain degree - but how many are familiar with the CoCo 3 - a superb machine which did no business i...

Re: First Computer

First machine I ever got was a TI/99/4A for Christmas 1982 - loved it to bits, got the game Alpiner with it (big complaint though - the machine didn't come with a bloody tape lead?).
Still works 28 years later!!!!

Re: What's your favourite title screen?

If Loading screens count,

I would go for the Lucasfilm games for the atari 8bit computers (pretty much impossible for any other machine of that era to do).

Re: SPEECH!

The Texas Instruments TI/99/4 an 4A had a hardware speech synthesizer, which had a male and female voice, cartridge based games would run on the system as normal until you plugged in the speech synth - then all manners of messages would be broadcast during speech enabled games. The speech was incred...

Re: Should I buy....an Atari ST

The simple answer would be NO!

The Atari had it's place as a MIDI controller, but if you have no interest in computer music - there really is no need to have an ST if you have or intend to buy an Amiga.

Re: Longest loader?

MY God! deep buried memories resurfaced on this thread - two of the worst offenders have already been mentioned (I thought my copies were buggered!) Gunship on the C64 and Mr Do on the 800XL. Gunship was more of a surprise - as most Atari tape based games had shockingly bad loading times (especially...

Re: Did you \"Type\" games in from books?

Yep - been there , seen it, done it, bought the t shirt. Seem to remember Your Computer being one of the worst offending magazines for errors, typing them in was fun for about 30 seconds or until you got by the REM statements(whichever came first). They did prove useful though, if you paid a bit of ...
