Some advice about cleaning an NES.

Recently my nes has had trouble reading my games so I have decided to open it up and clean it. Now I have found a guide on the internet ( This one ) so that isn't the problem. It says that I need rubbing alcohol but I can't get my hands any. Apparently WD40 can be used instead. Is this a good idea?

I got in the magazine for that picture so it wasn't all bad. I won't lie I have been considering dropping the mag for months now. Why was it in the mag? Playing Wario land the Shake Dimension, I really like the innovations in the game they make it a worthy addition to the series IMO.
