Re: Tropes and sexism in gaming.

All these online threats she's supposedly had, quite clearly they've been empty ones made up by internet trolls. When somebody makes hugely unpopular and inflammatory opinions online then they're naturally expected to get trolled usually within the subject they're on about. In her case on a sexual n...

Re: Tropes and sexism in gaming.

Even games with a strong female lead are heavily sexualised and stereotyped. Take Tomb Raider, it was an excellent game in its own right and its often pointed to as an example of women being represented in games. However the hook it hangs off is that the woman in question is a fit, pony tailed, lar...

I'll end your long post right there for neatness, so to summarise the rest of it in all it's fullness, you're spot on. Post of the day for me Image

Re: Your favourite 8-bit platformer

Thanks. It's still a game I come back to some 30 years later. Here's a longplay video I made of it last year, it's over an hour long with no lives lost which demonstrates the sheer immense size of the game :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEU2CXGiTBk More astonishingly Udo was still at school when ...

Re: Is wreck it Ralph a success?

It was a really good movie, but there were not enough classic cameo appearances. The movie seriously missed Mr Do. His special weapon would have been very useful. I didn't see Bub and Bob, paperboy or Arthur the GnG knight either. So many others. There were also too much time spent in fictional game...

Re: Charity Shops

Picked up "The Sims 3 - Fast Lane Stuff" expansion pack still sealed and unregistered for £1.99 a few weeks back. They're still going for about a tenner today, and yes I do have the base game to play it :)

Re: Football Manager 13 introduces a Classic mode

I wondered if they were connected also, so apparantly not then. No idea what they mean classic mode, do they mean their original or THE original? As Kevin Tom's 1982 version will always remain the ultimate original. He invented the game genre. There's been countless of clones since then. This series...

Re: Football Manager 13 introduces a Classic mode

The original will always be the best for me. It's too bloated nowadays which has knocked the fun out of it personally, I prefer the simplicity of the original.
I remember everyone at school raving about it back in the 80's. Funnily enough I played it again last month on my C64 8)

Re: retro games thats stunned you at the time....

Commodore 16 - Tom Thumb C16 - Tom Thumb Longplay What's most stunning is that it was all crammed within 12K of memory. It's a huge map with 8-way directional scrolling, pretty neat music for the C16 and great graphics. Takes over an hour to beat in it's entirety. I was hooked on it for a longtime :...

Re: what do you class as cheating

One of the best examples imho is The Sims 3 on the PC. I have nearly all the expansion packs, sad I know that a 40yr old guy is playing with a virtual dolls house but the I like to kill them in a variety of different ways. I digress though. There are countless cheats available. But the more specific...

Re: How long did you spend in......Arcades ?

Earliest memory was maybe Pontins, Camber Sands, UK back in the real early 80's. I remember being blown away by Phoenix. Probably where I first discovered Space Invaders too, but Phoenix is the one I remember. Other early memories around the same time was Riverside holiday park in Bognor Regis. This...

Commodore 16/Plus4 - Tom Thumb - Longplay My favourite game of all time. Just been watching your long play, I never got past those doors of flame let alone a key.. Can't believe how big that game is I always thought it would be quite short, about halfway through massive game, never knew there was b...
