Re: Europe's largest arcade - in Bury !

Made my first visit tonight. All I can say is wow! Had a great time playing all the classics, including Warlords for the first time in many a year. Also played Tempest with a spinner for the first time ever, which made it a completely different experience. I could have stayed all night but will be b...

Re: Experience of importing a classic arcade machine to the UK.

Wow, that is an interesting post. I have often considered getting a classic arcade machine but have always put it off due to the reasons you describe. I am not brave enough to spend that amount of money on 40 year old technology but admire those who do and have the knowledge to keep them working.

Re: From The Forum 182: What's your favourite Mega Drive game

My best games were Theme Park and Lemmings. I used to see those Lemmings when I shut my eyes at night!

Re: Which arcade game were you best at

I'm pretty good at Carnival by Sega. Most players seem to struggle to get past the fifth wave but I can usually do it. Back in the day, I was king of the Scramble machine in our college common room. I could make 10p last an age! I'm still pretty good at it on Mame as well but it gets boring quite qu...

Re: Retro Gamer issue 179

An ok issue for me. Best articles were the Gregg Mayles interview and the making of Aladdin, whilst I always enjoy a Pac Man 2600 article, the game definitely wasn't as bad as is made out these days. Nice to see Quicksilva featured as well as the BBC arcade clone article.

The recent Vic 20 version of Manic Miner is incredible, hard to believe it is running on a Vic.

Re: If not the "Big 3" 8-bits then who?

I'd vote for Vic 20 but it isn't on the list. People forget just how popular a machine it was around 1982-3 until the C64 kind of killed it. Also fond memories of doing my O level Computers exam on a BBC, which I always found easier to program than Commodore or Sinclair computers. Had a few decent g...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 178

An ok issue for me, personally I think 14 pages of Goldeneye is a bit overkill, at least 4 pages too many but hey ho. I've enjoyed the Enduro Racer, Football Manager & MUD features, so some good stuff in there too.

Re: From THe Forum 178: Share your Pac-Man anecdotes with us

I remember going to a holiday camp in 1981, looking forward to playing old favourites Space Invaders & Asteroids. When I got there, I found Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Phoenix & Crazy Climber, all new games to me. I didn't know what to play first, gaming heaven!

Re: Retro Gamer issue 177

Finally got round to reading the top 30 and it was largely as expected. The only 3 surprises for me were the NES reaching the top 10, ahead of the Spectrum, which I found rather unlikely and both the Amstrad & the Lynx making the top 30. Still, it was only a bit of fun and an interesting read.

Re: Space Invaders 40 years old today

A legendary game that changed everything. It hasn't aged well and is pretty dull to play these days but as a young boy, that arcade cab blew my mind and kick started my lifelong love of computer games. Getting an Atari 2600 with Space Invaders remains the greatest Christmas present I ever got.

Re: What game would you like to see remade for the VIC-20

Reading the Moon Cresta article this month made me try to think whether there was any sort of version for the Vic 20? Obviously not an official version but a rip off? Considering Moon Cresta was out when the Vic 20 was popular and it is a fairly basic game, I'd be quite surprised if no one had a go ...

I've got it but my wife has confiscated it for Christmas. From what I've seen flicking through, it looks excellent. Great job Boyo.

Re: From The Forum issue 176 - Favourite football game

My favourite is The Boss by Peaksoft on the Spectrum though that is a management game. I used to have some great late night, post pub drunken battles with my mates on World Cup Italia 90 on the Megadrive, back in the day. Great memories.
