Re: Can DAB radio be used to series record like TV PVR?

I haven't ever heard of any digital radios that have a recording feature. I guess to operate that they'd need a bigger display of station and schedules, rather than just displaying the current station and programme. But I've recorded stuff like Radio 4's comedy quizzes via Freeview.

Re: When did you find out...

If Father Christmas doesn't exist who leave the presents under the tree and eats the cookies I leave out? Explain that with your precious "science"! I just said he did. Grief there's some reactionary types around here... My mum once showed me a picture of me as a tiny sprog sat on Santa's kne...

Re: When did you find out...

Astonished to find out that Father Christmas does exist. Your parents actually just lied to you when you were 11 and said it was them to try and make you like them more during your teenage years.

Re: What Films/TV Have you Watched Recently?

The whole 'misogynist' thing about the new Ghostbusters film was largely stoked by the film's own promoters. They anticipated the criticism that any attempt to remake the original was a stupid idea, and so they figured they could belittle it by making out it was based in sexism, and then try to ride...

Re: When did you find out...

And I was slightly disturbed to learn that about half the reviewers and writers I'd admired during my younger days of reading 8-bit computer magazines were entirely fictitious. Wait, what? A slight exaggeration from Joefish there. A couple of Newsfield reviewers were made up, to make sure there was...

Re: From The Forum issue 162 - Retro Gaming Woes

Companies like Codemasters that refuse to let 30-year old games be available for free download and emulation - when many other companies do. And Nintendo going after emulators and fan-remakes of their old games. They make the same excuse that Disney did when they sued kindergartens in the US for pai...

Re: When did you find out...

I was interested to learn that Dan Dare III was a graphical hack of an unrelated game that had been submitted to the publisher. And I always thought Bo Jangebourg had ripped off The Artist with the draw-and-fill routines that made up the levels in Fairlight . Until I found out the same guy had writt...

Re: Doom wasn't 3D!

Suprisingly raycasting does one thing that a lot of shortcut methods don't - it does actually give you perspective-correct textures on the walls. It's because of the way that the 'rays' - the lines being tracked - spread out with distance from the viewer, so will hit a wall texture further apart ove...

Re: Nintendo NX Reveal Coming Tomorrow!

If they could show that one of the controllers, when detached, acts as a screen pointer, and there's an equivalent touch-screen feature on the portable system, then there might be some hope for it. But then I don't think they're that bright.

Re: Doom wasn't 3D!

I forgot about Ecstatica - that's more like a proper voxel engine. Simple blobs in 3D space. Just like all those 3D ball sprite demos on the ST and Amiga. Though they're not all the same size and shape in Ecstatica's case, and there's a hell of a lot more of them. Minecraft might look like it's deal...

Re: Do you prefer Mario 2D or 3D games?

Not a fan of inertia then  I can understand putting in inertia when moving at the sort of speeds Sonic the Hedgehog got up to, but it seemed every platform game on the 16-bit consoles was copying it; it was terrible. And true, Sonic at slow-speed close-quarters platforming could be pretty anno...

Re: Doom wasn't 3D!

I think you're clinging to a somewhat bizarre understanding of the concept of three dimensions! If being limited to walking round on a flat surface makes one 2-dimensional then we have fundamental problems with our very existence. Minecraft is a proper volumetric engine in that its cubes can appear ...

Re: Doom wasn't 3D!

The Amiga version of Doom I used to play let you look up or down. I'm sure later mods of the PC version probably did, too. Yes, but if you watch, it's a cheat. They're just tilting the floor and walls a bit. If you look closely at the walls you see they shift up and down but vertical lines stay ver...

Re: Do you prefer Mario 2D or 3D games?

I can't stand the 2D games. The only one I can bear to play is the original Wario on the GameBoy. I like a proper platform game with control. Playing Super Mario anything is like being stuck on every ice world of every bad game ever made.
