Re: Hot Topic for Issue 63

Has to be Manic Miner - very tough but never unfair. I finally managed to complete it after 25 years. What's with the fish & dagger, eh? Jet Set Willy was great but spoiled by some fairly well-known bugs. Chuckie Egg was fun but the inability to use a joystick and the trick to climbing ladders was a...

Re: Do you want new making ofs?

Why why why? Couldn't you at least stick to older stuff? What about Playstation / N64 'Making-Ofs'? How all those 2D programmers put themselves through the wringer of moving to 3D. And I'm sure there's plenty of 8-bit and 16-bit stuff to cover. There have been very few articles on ST or Amiga games ...

Re: From the forum question for issue 64

Disruptor , on the Playstation. Great gameplay, with colourful planetary scenery and a space station with big windows, all looking far more exciting than the drab browns on PC FPSs. Psionic weapons, big cybernetic baddies and neat snatches of FMV between levels made it a classy looking game. Even i...

Re: The Mobile Phone Section

I think it would look better if there were actually other mobile phone games on the page, or something else portable (not that I play any - I might if you could track down some that were free and homebrew rather than linked to extortionate callback or number-harvesting schemes). Or even just mix up ...

Re: What is retro?

So, excuse me asking, but then why on earth are you arguing that the aforementioned Halo and Call of Duty are 'Retro' titles, if that's your view? And yes, I wouldn't be put out by Dreamcast coverage either, since it had such a short life.

Not when there are people willing to argue that firing up an XBox or a PS2 is 'Retro', no.

Re: What is retro?

Games that don't have the marketable hype of the latest graphics or control methods They all had those things at some point though, even the oldest games were cutting edge once. Yes, but they don't any more , so you couldn't promote them in today's market on that basis. What point are you trying to...

Re: What is retro?

Let's be clear, 'Retro gaming' is about appreciating the pure playability of games that have dropped well out of the mainstream. Games that don't have the marketable hype of the latest graphics or control methods, but still have playability that will last for decades. It's a chance to pick out and p...

Re: Retro Gamer eMag Volume 2 Now Available

It is a ridiculous state of affairs that this disk is 'sold out'. I mean most of the readership is more than capable of duplicating stuff like this on their own so how come Imagine Publishing completely fail to do so? Is the intention to encourage piracy or something? Look - HERE IS A £20 NOTE. I WO...

Re: What is retro?

So what? An 8-year old game that people were probably still playing at the time is hardly 'Retro'. Are you saying that Manic Miner (1983) was 'Retro' to someone sat there playing CJ's Elephant Antics (1991) on the same ZX Spectrum they'd had for the last nine years? Frankly, at this point, if someon...

Re: What is retro?

So, I think it fair to ask, what the hell is going on that someone can add Call of Duty and Halo to the game boards? I mean, in what sense are they retro? Maybe, just maybe, if you have the lifespan of a small rodent then they could be considered slightly less than current, but if Retro Gamer is jus...
