Re: Thoughts on Sonic 4 please

Are they really going to make people skip through four menu screens just to start the game? Looks to me like a higher-res rehash of something off the Megadrive. Doesn't excite me at all. Why can't they just get it? Everyone else does except, it seems, SEGA. That moment in Sonic Unleashed , where the...

Re: Jif Lemon Day!

Looks awful. (Though, it should be pointed out, if you bake a large sweet potato in the microwave, split it open, add a bit of marg, that plastic cheese is just perfect to melt into it). Anyway, I've had my pancakes. Used some stoneground wholemeal flour and made them nice and thick. Tesco's orange ...

Re: Very obscure arcade side-scrolling tank game.

Buck Rogers? Where's Erin Gray in a shiny jumpsuit then? No, it was definitely a chequered floor and ceiling, marking out a tunnel through space (but with open sides). A narrow roadway rather than just moving ground like Space Harrier. By 'Turbo' do you mean the SEGA game? No, this was an electro-me...

Re: Very obscure arcade side-scrolling tank game.

Minefield - that's the one. Thanks. Well remembered. The racing game isn't either of those though. It wasn't all enclosed like that. This one was knocking around in an arcade in Mablethorpe long after its prime. You sat in a seat in front of a white, narrow, near-vertical screen, about five feet hig...

Re: Are you too old for your taste in music??

I'm a bit stuck in the 90's too - Carter USM, The Shamen, Pelé. I also like a bit of Steve Miller Band, Blue Öyster Cult. Only stuff I've bought recently have been 'best of's from REM, YES, etc. But then I like La Roux as they're like an advanced version of the electro-pop I used to listen to and di...

No - It's a similar look though, but with more subdued, earthy colours. It was a contemporary tank like vehicle.

Very obscure arcade side-scrolling tank game.

I need help identifying an arcade game I only saw in passing, back around 1985/86. I remember seeing it in a café in Kettering bus station where I waited for the bus home after school. I never actually played it, so I'm sorry if the description is a bit vague. I've identified a lot of the old and ob...

Re: Issue 73 feedback

I thought that double-page spread from a while ago was overkill. Maybe there are more reviews, but keeping them mixed in with the other platforms certainly looks more balanced. But if all the reviews are going to say is 'yep, looks good, but the fake joystick touch-screen controls are crap' then I d...

Re: **MORE** Classic Games that need a feature in the mag!

A tribute to the 'Null Modem' cable and anything that supported it. Lotus Turbo II, Populous, Stunt Car Racer, Falcon. Games where you could not just connect two identical machines, but you could hook up an Atari ST to an Amiga and even with the differences in spec and graphics, you could play a two...

Re: Jif Lemon Day!

We always used to have undilute orange squash and sugar on ours - as kids we wouldn't touch lemon juice. On holiday in Greece, the retaurants offer all sorts of crêpes but never orange. Most have been willing to give it a go though - one gave me some lovely sliced orange and cream, but best was one ...

Depends if you have just or if there's a remote possibility of you winning a sporting accolade of some sort; then you're British. The instant you get knocked out, you're Scottish / Welsh / Northern Irish / Canadian-born.

Re: Best Ever Budget Title? (or your favourite)

Knight-Tyme was something of a landmark. A neat arcade-adventure and the first dedicated (rather than just expanded) game for the 128K Spectrum. Not that I ever played that version; I had to wait for a 48K cut-down version for my aging Speccy, but that was still pretty good.

Re: Issue 73 feedback

Happy to see the iPhone coverage reined in a bit, too. Pretty ironic statement, given that this issue has more iPhone/iPod touch reviews in it than any issue I can remember of the mag, including those with a specific mobile gaming DPS. Then let me rephrase that - it was easier to ignore! Clearly a ...

Re: Issue 73 feedback

I'd agree, it's a good one. And I'm not just saying that because there are Speccy graphics on the cover... There's a fair whack of coverage of 8-bit machines, balancing out nicely so the 16-bit console stuff doesn't dominate like it seems to have done a few times lately. The venture into dedicated d...
