Re: Mame recommendations?

Most of the games I'd recommend have already been mentioned, but I'll throw a few obscurities in here... City Connection Drive around in a little Honda hatchback and paint the whole road to clear each stage, while avoiding police cars and hitch-hiking cats (?). It's really simple, but incredibly add...

Re: Ultra-retro gaming holiday finds (with pictures!)

Haha, Super Steer-a-Ball! That's awesome! This shows up a lot in those 'Penny Arcades' you sometimes see... I know there's one of these in a museum called Botany Bay (alongside Space Invaders and one of those old-school Peepshow things) and every time I play it, I never win. The last turn is impossi...

Re: Do we lose it as we get older?

I'm really not sure. On the one hand, I've been beating a lot of games that haunted me as a child quite recently- in particular, DJ Boy and Strider on the Mega Drive- and beating Probotector on the NES is something I always thought was impossible, did it a few weeks ago. On the other hand, though, t...

Re: What are you currently playing?

I've been playing a lot of the Sega Classics Collection recently on the PS2... Not all of the remakes on there are good (Golden Axe and Columns stand out as the stinkers) but the Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier remakes are excellent, and those are the ones I've been playing this week. It's a shame ev...

Nonsense, just stick it back together with some gaffa tape, it'll be fine :)

Re: What is the rarest/most expensive game you own?

Speaking of Earthworm Jim, I have Earthworm Jim 2 (Mega Drive version) which includes a set of Earthworm Jim Pogs. Kooky? Yes. Rare? Yes. Valuable? Probably not. Oh yeah, I seem to remember seeing quite a few of those still sealed on eBay a few years ago... Weren't they only released in France or s...

Re: Post Your Interesting Gaming Facts

If you put the Mega-CD game Tomcat Alley into a normal CD player, you'll hear a bizarre track with the words 'gay monkeys' repeated over and over again. There's a similar trick with a few Saturn games- both NiGHTS games and Sonic Jam, when put into your CD drive on your computer, all contain a 'bonu...

Re: Game screensavers

It's not really that retro... But these Ikaruga screensavers are pretty nifty! There's also the Horizontal Shooter Parade screensaver but that's all I can think of, I'm afraid.

Re: What is the rarest/most expensive game you own?

The most expensive was Radiant Silvergun. I paid too much. Let's leave it at that.

The rarest... I don't really know. I really want to say it's my Brazillian copy of Earthworm Jim for the Master System, but I doubt it's that rare, it's just a kooky oddity. Can't really answer this, in that case.

Re: What's that smell?

I actually liked Road Avenger enough to complete it. It has a few advantages over Ground Zero Texas, in that it actually works as intended, and isn't fundamentally broken like GZT is. Not a great game, but the fact that it isn't a completely unplayable heap is a point in its favour. Now, if you want...

Re: What's that smell?

Ground Zero Texas (Mega-CD) - This is literally the worst game ever. Ever. You can't even enjoy it in a Night Trap-esque 'ha ha ha this is so bad holy crap I'm going to die laughing' kind of way, because it's dreadful. It barely functions as a game- you have to juggle so much switching between came...

Re: Cobra Command - Arcade/Laserdisc/Mega CD

Not often you see an FMV game fan as they tend to be derided. Road Avenger is probably one of the best FMV games I've played though. Yeah, I agree- Road Avenger is the only FMV game I've ever actually completed. It also has a hilariously bad vocal track during the intro, with some horribly mangled ...

Re: You talkin to me?

Space Harrier, obviously :)

I'll do an easy one too:
"It's time for revenge! Let's attack aggressively."

(The one I wanted to post was "No enemy can put a stop to justice!" from Atomic Runner, but it might be a bit too obscure)

Re: Game Soundtracks that you found emotionally moving

Anything from any Outrun game, but Splash Wave in particular. All the songs in the entire series are designed to cheer you up, and they never fail to do so. Reminds you of the good old days, when there were blue skies in gaming, etc. etc. I'm also going to say the Earthbound soundtrack, specifically...

Re: Operation Wolf lightgun support!!!

There's absolutely no reason why the best lightgun game ever has not received lightgun support Yes there is. Operation Wolf was never a Light Gun game in the arcade. The machine gun control is actually an analog joystick. This is correct. I believe Zombie Raid and Space Gun use a similar sort-of se...
