Re: Fave classic computer?

The most popular Japanese computer was the MSX. It had good game support from the Japanese devs. For example the Metal Gear series started on this device. It was co-developed by MS but it was never brought to the Western markets. Various versions exist, including the MSX 2 and the MSX Turbo-R, whic...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 125

I liked the Paperboy article. It went into a bit of detail and looked at all the versions of the game. Maybe the BBC quiz show that played the game should have been mentioned The minority report about Archimedes games was interesting maybe there should have been more detail on that and not another A...

Re: Fave classic computer?

For me MSX was the best classic computer. The better quality Spectrum games were usually converted and you also had the great Japanese games from Konami in particular. The computers themselves were well designed quality products usually with good keyboards, a built-in PSU, often scart outputs & prop...

Re: Games your parents played more than you?

My mother was addicted to Space Invaders. She used to play it on the Atari VCS into the early hours (thinking about it now I am surprised she knew how to switch it on and tune it in). One night my father got sick of it and switched off the electricity supply for the house.

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 123

I am disappointed with the Salamander article. It was very short mainly concerned with the c64 conversion. For me the best bit about that game was the simultaneous two player option something the c64 version did not have. It would not have worked very well with at conversion because of its lower dif...

Re: Wii U Owners Thread - Including User IDs

Really enjoying tennis online I have had lots of exciting games. The motionplus has improved the game. A few laggy games but most are fine. I hope they keep updating the sports club games with new features.

Re: Computers in education experiences

At primary school no computers but they did have a Speak & Spell and I remember watching a tv programme(no videos) about computers and a microchip being handed round the class for pupils to look at. At middle school they had a few BBCs that I can't remember being used for anything educational but on...

Re: The storied history of the Atari 2600

Way to regurgitate the usual old wives tales, none of it based on fact. 1) Atari was never in any position to go public, they suffered terrible financial losses across 73 and 74, enough so that they had the fire the entire management including the president, and start looking for investors. They on...

Re: The storied history of the Atari 2600

If Atari had gone public and not been sold to Warner it would have continued being an innovative company. Nolan would have phased out the 2600 and replaced it with a more powerful system sooner he called his philosophy 'eating your own babies'. Projects under development in the 70s @ Atari like onli...

Re: Collectors needed

I think most collectors just want to own the things they could not afford when they were young. For me that is some atari vcs, st stuff and a very large amount of MSX stuff basically anything but especially the Konami games and cartridge releases of UK/US 8-bit games like jet Set WIlly, Ultimate gam...

Re: Best ever strategy games

A few games like Advance Wars on consoles are ok but really it is PC all the way for strategy games Panzer General 1 - there is a remake(avoid the one on xbox live) called Panzer Corps which is very good but I like the original better Civilization - they are all good but civ 2 was the best for me an...

Combat (Atari 2600) Space Invaders (liked the Atari version more than the arcade game) Pac Man Scramble (played rocket raid more than the actual arcade game) Chuckie Egg Manic Miner Jet Set Willy (its a pity the miner willy series was not developed further like the Mario games) Penguin Adventure (th...

Re: MSX coverage

MSX was very popular in my area more people had them than Amstrads or C64s I think it was because it was sold in independent tv/hi-fi shops rather than chains like WH Smiths / Dixons so in a rural area people tended to buy from the local shop. The problem was these shops tended not to sell many game...
