Re: Top 10 8-bit / 16-bit Console Strategy Games

I never knew Gain Ground was supposed to be a strategy game. I always thought it was just a bad Commando knock-off. :? Anyway, how about Civilization, Populous, Sim City, Syndicate and Harvest Moon? The first four are perhaps more commonly thought of as home computer games, but like Dune 2 were por...

Re: Top 10 8-bit / 16-bit Console Strategy Games

There's just no way Jungle Strike could ever be considered an RTS. For one thing, it's actually good . Haha, I knew that Jungle Strike's inclusion would be a little controversial. Love that game. I feel like so much of the game is focused on picking up fuel, armor, and ammo, and planning each missi...

Top 10 8-bit / 16-bit Console Strategy Games

Greetings, I finished up a new Top 10 list a few days ago http://timewarpgamer.com/top10s/strategy.html . Of course these things are never truly done--always discovering new games and hidden gems--so I'm curious to see what y'all think of the list. Any recommended additions? Any stinkers clogging an...

Re: Best beat em up series

I guess the answer kind of depends on if you define "beat 'em up" as the one/two player versus many (i.e. Double Dragon) or one-on-one fighting (i.e. Street Fighter II). Personally, I believe it's the former, which makes it easy to respond:

BARE KNUCKLE!!! (aka Streets of Rage)

Re: What are you currently playing?

Super Meat Boy (Xbox 360). Easily one of the best retro-style games I've played in years. Dark World, Warp Zones, Unlockable characters, and—best of all—squishy meat sounds when you move and jump.

Re: Top 8-bit Sunsoft titles: Blaster Master

The original is still the better game...feels more varied, and is more challenging, but the newer one has a definite 'Super Metroid' vibe to it and is well worth playing. Certain things are out of sequence compared to the original but that's partly to make it feel different I suppose. The 'map' fea...

Re: Top 8-bit Sunsoft titles: Blaster Master

Good article :) Blaster Master's one of my all time favourite NES games and I loved the WiiWare remake (Blaster Master Overdrive) too. It's a game I've often wondered about as to whether it'd work in 3D or not. Maybe it's best just left as it is. Thanks for the props. I've been on the fence about w...

Re: XBLA - A brilliant 2010

This service has gotten so good that I'm going to have to add an Xbox 360 retro gaming section to my website. I downloaded Super Meat Boy two weeks ago and have been totally hooked. Then you've got Castle Crashers and Scott Pilgrim breathing life into the old beat 'em up genre and the list just goes...

Just added a new recommendation to the Top 10 list. Not a member of the top 10, mind you, but well worth checking out:

TurboGrafx-16 CD / PC Engine CD Box Art Comparison: JP vs US

Howdy, I recently uploaded another box art comparison, this time for one of my favorite consoles ever. I know the TurboGrafx-16 / PC Engine never saw an official release in the UK, but everyone enjoys laughing at bad American box art. http://timewarpgamer.com/features/box_art_disparity_tg-cd.html I ...
