Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 160

A fine issue this month. Re the cover I've never really been all that fussed about them. It's fine this month as usual. Someone mentioned the text inside - it's a problem I've had for some time now with the magazine. It being Retro, then a significant proportion of the readership will be of a certai...

Re: Thoughts On Retro Gamer Ultimate Guides

Always glad to see an in-depth article of any game. It all depends on the game whether I'll read it or not.

Are three decent titles that seem to run more or less spot on.
Splendid choices. Bought a PS2 to play Gradius 5 and RType Final. Sky Odyssey scratches the Pilotwings itch.

Re: Good modern shoot-em-ups?

Geometry Wars 3 is excellent. Some of the levels make me feel like I'm playing Tempest (which is a great thing by the way).

Re: From The Forum Issue 160 - Gamecube

In some ways you can look at the Gamecube as a safe pair of hands to provide updates of established franchises but there were some quirky games and ideas that were introduced on the cube. There's the bongo controllers with Donkey Konga but also the rather lovely DK Jungle Beat - how many platformers...

Shmups Skill Test by Triangle Service currently on sale via Steam is an enjoyable game - worth a look.

Re: Good modern shoot-em-ups?

If you want an old school modern shoot em up then Under Defeat is hard to look past. It got great releases on 360 and PS3 if you don't fancy shelling out for the Dreamcast version. Also for Dreamcast - Sturmwind. A gorgeous horizontal shooter with some lovely set piece boss fights and the difficulty...

Re: Good modern shoot-em-ups?

Mushihimesama Futari is without doubt the most enjoyable and entertaining shoot-em-up I have ever played. Incredibly accessible but with modes that keep the hardcore happy too. It's available only on iPhone and 360 at the moment (and is of course available as a PCB but I suspect that would be expens...

I love the VCS, but the sound really doesn't sound like video games.

Correct. Its sound doesn't sound like video games.

Its sound IS video games.

Re: Console Wars Memories

Whether there actually was a war or not, what was great about the the SNES/MD era was that both consoles only had a moderate amount of overlap. They hosted two quite different libraries of games. There were even occasions where a game like Aladdin, released on both consoles was actually a different ...

I was lucky enough to play Marble Madness in the arcade - only ever saw one cabinet. Two player mode was a hoot.

Re: Best "rolling ball" game(s)

Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2 on the Gamecube are great but in my opinion are surpassed by the magnificent Kororinpa on the Wii. The control and physics in that game are stunning and it's a bit of a shame there aren't more levels in the game (only 100 including mirror mode). It has charm pouring out of it...
