Re: Thoughts on Sonic 4 please

The video shows that this will be episodic....so maybe a disc release holding all episodes will appear after a while. I always considered the series on the Megadrive very good but overrated - especially pitted against the likes of Super Mario World but I'll probably get this.

Re: What Japan-only game(s) do you wish were released worldwide?

Mr Driller Drill Land on Gamecube is highly rated , Japan only, and won't save to the memory card when used with a Freeloader.

Re: Wii recommendations

Metal Slug Anthology is great. You need a GC controller though. For some reason the dpad isn't supported but the octagonal slots in the analogue stick housing means it works fine with this game. Avoid Namco Museum Remix unless you get it really cheap : it emulates these games :Galaxian, Dig Dug, Map...

Re: Nintendo 64, impressions from retro gamers

I was a fan of the N64 back in the day. Simply wasn't impressed by either the PS1 or Saturn. Many forget how woeful the PS1 controller was before the N64 came out and made Sony go back and add analogue control. If you have a PAL N64, the first thing you need to get is an S-Video cable - that will cl...

Re: What's your favourite Konami game?

Konami didn't put a foot wrong on the SNES: I still have Parodius, Pop n Twinbee, Prince of Persia, Buster Busts Loose, Zombies, Mystical Ninja, Rainbow Bell Adventures, Contra III, Castlevania IV and ISS Deluxe - all absolutely top notch. I genuinely find it hard to pick a favourite out of that bun...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

Got a couple of shmups for my PAL PS2 - Homura and Samurai Aces. Both support 60Hz, TATE and hiscore saving. Homura looks particularly nice.

Re: saturn shooters help

Lots of the better Saturn shmups can still command good prices - almost like buying a current gen new release! In the upper bracket pricewise (and quality-wise!) are DoDonPachi and Soukyugarentai (some prefer Souky to RSG), but bargains can be had. Battle Garegga can be pricy. Mid range - I'm a fan ...

Re: Do you buy homebrew games?

I have bought 2 over the last couple of years. Pacman Collection for the Atari 7800 and Medieval Mayhem for the 2600. Both quite brilliant. I recommend Atariage.com as a source for 7800/2600 games. The devs hang out there and are very accessible. I intend to buy a few more based on my experience - t...

Re: Atari 2600 - The Best Games

I posted this on AV forums - I suspect there'll be more interest here.. Obviously it really depends on your attitude to old game graphics as to how much enjoyment you get from a 2600. Its all about multi-player too - quite like the Wii in that respect. Even the very early games can be fun. Combat : ...

Re: Amiga games on Nintendo consoles...

The SNES got the cute and cuddly "Out to Lunch"

.....and the SNES got pretty good versions of Gods (far faster than the Megadrive version) and the brilliant Chaos Engine.

Re: Whats your fav snes games.

Apart from the obvious games:- Super Aleste (Space Megaforce in NTSC land) - amazing shmup which is still one of my favourites on any platform (and I'm a Saturn shmup head). A technical triumph on the SNES - loads of sprites and effects with no slowdown. Plok - lovely platformer with Follin soudtrac...

Re: Free NES game on the Wii - Recommendations?

If you like maze games then Devil World is worth a look - an extremely odd game. Its a pretty good variation on Pacman - a far more interesting game than Pacman in fact.

I was useful at Moon Patrol - could complete the beginner course and get half way through the champion course on 1 credit - scored around 80-90K.

Best demo ever had to be Doom - the first episode was a free download which was pretty much a first back in the day.
