Re: Sexy parodius....

How you use the bell power up depends on the colour of the bell - its always been like that in the Parodius series. The invincibility bell is auto-activated, as is the little pacman character which is exclusive to Sexy Parodius. The white bell megaphone power up is auto-activated too. The manual one...

Re: Which console do u think was the biggest missed opportun

The N64. If it had a CD drive from the beginning the console would have been monstrously successful. The lack of space on cartridges hampered the real creative types from doing some truly wonderful games. I know they stuck to carts because of piracy (and to keep a stranglehold on those licensing ro...

Re: First Game Ever Bought?

Fishing Derby for the 2600. Some Activision titles were a bit cheaper than the 1st party games so that was a factor. I had read a review of it in C&VG which had given it the thumbs up - it was a decent game and is still a pretty good 2 player game. Those were the days when c&VG was a great magazine ...

Re: Game databases

the www.collectorz.com software is pretty good. It will auto download info, cover images etc. in an iTunes kind of way ans will work on the bar code on the packaging too. It isn't free but its very good and easy to use. They have versions for CDs, DVDs and comics too as far as I know.

Re: What cables are you using to get the best picture?

SNES - s-video. I have found this excellent for the SNES. I can count the pixels on my old CRT - that's how clear it is. Megadrive - RGB SCART - I got a modded Megadrive and I can't believe how much better things look than on my old unmodded machine with crappy composite (60Hz helps too!!!) N64- s-v...

Re: Best 2-Player games on SNES / NES to play with Girlfrien

Some I heven't seen mentioned yet: Hebereke's Popoon and Heberke's Popoitto (popoon is a puyo-a-like, popoitto is a dr mario-a-like) Mad japanese visuals and music Kirby's Dream Course - weird but clever crazy golf game Out to Lunch - OK its a turn-based 2 player platformer - but this is cute as a b...

Re: The New Zealand story

First played this on the Amstrad CPC464. I remember it being great but the loading between levels was a killer. I then experienced it via MAME many years later as I never saw it in the arcade and it was great to play the original unfettered by the 464's limitations.. I really like the game - love th...

Re: Why you should play XIII

Nice stylish FPS - not a genre I adore - but this is nice. Have the GC version - seems to have a handful of multi-player modes too though I haven't actually played them.....

Re: The BEST 2D Platform games of ALL TIME - LIST

Being as neutral as I can I can't look past the SNES for being the console that was the pinnacle for the platforming genre. Before the industry became obsessed with 3D this was the platform of choice for platformers- as it played host to beautifully drawn and coloured 2D games. Its slower processor ...

Re: Best 2 player games on the SNES?

a few more I don't think have been mentioned yet... Arkanoid : Doh it again - has a split screen battle mode and also a 2 player simultaneous mode in the main game. (Supports the mouse but you can use the controllers) Heberke's Popoitto & Hebereke's Popoon : quirky alternatives to Dr Mario and Puyo ...

Re: Making games, ever done it discussion

I've had a go over the years - some of my efforts are lost forever (Apple II Monopoly, Oric-1 Video Poker) and to be honest it's probably for the best! I knocked up a puzzle game in BlitzBasic for PC that still needs some work but its playable- has been downloaded about 200 times after being picked ...
