Re: Blockbuster Closing Down sale

It also depends, I imagine, on stock levels. Our store in Fleet simply vanished overnight (although it, being a Blockbuster, had been running some kind of sale for years now).

Re: Questions for Chris Hülsbeck

Right, well this piece has now been filed and I'm told it'll run in #115. Quite a few of the questions from this thread were asked and, assuming they don't get cut (and they shouldn't really, given that I adhered to the commissioned word count), The Laird in particular might find Chris's response re...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

I wish the Zen guys would steal Pinball Arcade's preview model. On the latter, you play until you hit a high-score as often as you like, enabling you to get a feel for the table and whether you want to buy it. With Zen, you get almost nothing, and I've not terribly enjoyed what I have bought, meanin...

Re: Apple - the future of video gaming?

The problem for me with Angry Birds has always been its randomness. The lack of precision in the aiming mechanism and the Box 2D physics make it too much of a 'fling and hope' effort, hence, I suppose, its typical alignment with casual gaming. I also get frustrated seeing it showcased as an example ...

For sale: boxed Atari Lynx II, ten games, power adaptor

For sale: Atari Lynx (II) console, boxed (with inserts). The screen and speaker appear fine. The set includes a UK AC adaptor and the following games: Battlewheels, Chip’s Challenge, Crystal Mines II, Dirty Larry, Rampart, Shadow of the Beast, S.T.U.N. Runner, Super Skweek, Ultimate Chess Challenge,...

Re: Apple - the future of video gaming?

But it's already happening. Revenues on iOS/Android have outstripped other handhelds; second screens are taking over from the first. Most people I know with kids say they're wedded to touchscreen devices, not traditional consoles. There will of course remain a market for the PlayStations and Xboxes ...

Re: Best Retro Games On iOS

The issue—bar personal taste—will be in separating games that are genuinely good from that that are quite good but perhaps need an iCade from those that are junk and fuelled by a nostalgic glow from 1985. Given my work for various publications, I've played an insane number of iOS titles, and the maj...

Re: "Capcom Arcade Cabinet" coming to various consoles

Its a pity Cacom didn't support gameroom, it was a good idea and the only real chance most of these companies had of making money out of their back catalogues. If they had all joined in they could have reached a decent audience. Curiously, that was, I'm told (by one of the app's creators), the orig...

Re: Questions for Chris Hülsbeck

Thanks, all. I just got off the phone with Chris, who rather generously took me through his entire musical life over the space of about 90 minutes. Fans are in for a treat in an upcoming issue. I even got in some of the questions asked here, so here's hoping they make the edit.

Re: Apple - the future of video gaming?

I suspect people are misunderstanding the future and also Apple in thinking the company would ever bother creating a console. It's just not going to happen. Even pushing the Apple TV more towards gaming via the TV seems something that Apple is not remotely interested in. Right now, the Apple TV coul...

Questions for Chris Hülsbeck

I'll be chatting to Chris Hülsbeck on Thursday for an upcoming Retro Gamer feature. If there's anything anyone here would like me to ask him, feel free to add it below. Note that I can't guarantee I'll ask all questions posted here (assuming some questions actually do get posted here!), but I'll do ...

Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features

This is true, but I'm still trying to broaden my horizons nonetheless and get in contact with a few American developers. However, Japan is a real tough nut to crack as I think we're all aware. Doesn't stop me trying but... In my experience, many US devs are extremely happy to talk—more so than many...

Re: !! MAME is back in the App Store (iOS) - for now...

Is the iCade really worth it then? Are the joystick and the buttons good quality that will last a good few games of Street Fighter or R-Type? The original and Core are pretty good. They're not quite high-end console-peripheral quality, but they're close enough. The units I've tested have been respo...

If it helps, I've just kicked myself to death for not mentioning the Spectrum version of Boulder Dash in the making-of I wrote for issue 27. All my future articles will now be written by Zombie Craig. I HOPE YOU'RE ALL HAPPY NOW.
