Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

Hope Minter carries on with his games on iOS Likewise, but here's what he said to me on Twitter yesterday : that's partly why I'm off to pastures new. 2 years on the App Store ended up actually costing me money :( (That was in response to my point about the App Store never featuring his games, even...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

When I spoke to him for Retro Gamer, he was pretty sick of the market, but I also got the feeling it was at least an outlet he could control. Even the PC's now becoming a big problem, given that gamers are flocking to Steam, which has a crazy practice of enabling games to be voted in. (When Pinball ...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

Perhaps, but even then it'd need a decent number of subs and it's another app to build, maintain and get through Apple's approvals process.

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

A friend of mine complained about The Room, because he finished it in three hours. He admitted it was a fantastic experience and also knew he was being stupid for feeling short-changed, but the perception of value has been totally destroyed by tier-one. There needs to be a fight back. Note that I do...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

The only way to do a subscription would be to have some kind of Llamasoft app that new games get released into (kind of like the arcade emulation ones), but then there's an expectation. What happens if he gets really into a more ambitious title and only releases one new game in a year? Would subscri...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

On pricing, do bear in mind previous games continue to take up his time regarding maintenance updates, for very little extra income. Gridrunner's getting an update soon, for example. Really, £2.49's hardly going to break the bank, and I hope more indies follow suit. (Ridiculous Fishing similarly esc...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

I'm wondering what the hold-up is with GoatUp 2. I do hope nothing's wrong, but it's certainly been in Apple's system now for longer than the current average. It occurs that Jeff's attempt to be super-well-behaved with level-sharing might have led to extra testing.

Re: pinball games

No mention of Night Mission pinball yet? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s4yaF0W2Dis/Sw3xwol3ewI/AAAAAAAANvM/2_-n7iaimA8/s1600/night-mission-pinball.png I absolutely adored this table on the C64, with its crunchy audio, insanely fast gameplay and varied features. After that, for me, it was Pinball Dreams ...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

That won't happen on the basis that the app is fully licences and also not trying to circumvent Apple's app-submission process. There are plenty of other emulators on the App Store, too, including a ton of Sega apps, Spectrum emulators, and even the odd PC one. The only one that rankles with me is i...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

Maybe it's a device-power thing, but that GBA emulator's a bit crap. The audio stutters quite badly, making some games unplayable. OK, making Rhythm Tengoku unplayable, which was the one game I really wanted on my iPhone.

Re: German Retro Gamer issue 2

BTW, here's a (small) list of famous US programmers who during the 80s, contributed to the success of worldwide known games on the three main 8-bit computers (Apple ][, Atari 8-bit, C64) : I'm not sure what the point of that list is, not least given that many of them have been interviewed for Retro...

Re: German Retro Gamer issue 2

Yeah, I thought the same on having a look at Wiki. Maybe we're all missing something and an A8 fan should elaborate, but to me having a go about not knowing who Gilbertson is seems rather like pointing and laughing at a Spectrum fan for not having heard of Wally Beben. (Well —ish. Beben was more pro...

Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features

Can we get an article about the old PC games Paratrooper, Alley Cat, Round 42 and Sopwith? I always like the idea of exploring Paratrooper-style games and did mention to the editors maybe sorting a short (two-page) making-of on Sabotage at one point (given that the Apple II game was the inspiration...

Re: German Retro Gamer issue 2

You should have done a fact check really. The German edition is completely revised. That's interesting—and rare. I guess, then, there was an editor working alongside the translator (or one person doing both). I don't actually see the omission of a machine of a list (we're going to start moving to v...

Re: German Retro Gamer issue 2

Might it just be that the Atari 8-bits weren't really that big or relevant in Europe and for most people so they sometimes get overlooked? It's a bit like Boulder Dash was apparently a game released first for on old Apple computer (or was that also an Atari 8 bit?), but I'm sure most people would s...
