There were several of them, but for me what is most glaring is that I never could enjoy the NES or SNES. I hated the NES controllers. I was used to joysticks at the time, and found the corners of the gamepad dug into my hands. Also, I found the games that I played on it to be ugly and uninspiring, w...

Theres a vectrex in my local GS. I didn't ask how much it costs though  It's definitely worth picking up if it's in your price range. There's nothing else like it, the games are generally good, and there are a few recent homebrew releases that you can buy on cartridge. I'm not too keen on the...

I think will2097 covered things pretty well in his post above, but I'll add my two pence anyway. It is definitely worth it. The 3DO is my personal favourite console, mainly because of its unusual game library, and the fun that I had with it. In terms of quality games, the best that I have played wer...

It's got to be the SID, hands down. So many deeply satisfying sounds have come out of that little beauty. Warm, buzzing basslines, chirpy ring modulation, delicious filter sweeps. The SID aesthetic is at once unique, instantly recognisable, and a sheer brainbuzz of joy. I put the AY/YM as a second. ...

I don't really know anyone right now who plays games at all. So, for me, gaming is strictly a solo activity. Occasionally I meet someone who played computer games as a child, and get to astound that person by showing them ScummVM on my Palm. For them, the interest is purely a matter of childhood nos...

1. What are the origins of the star system names?

2. Who is Sara? (ST/Amiga cheat).

3. Where did the idea for Thargoids come from?

4. Speaking of Thargoids, I was once attacked by two at the same time. Was this particular piece of sadism put in the game on purpose?

Flash games section?

I think some coverage of Flash based games would be good for the magazine. i was looking around the web today, and thought about the potential retro gaming appeal that Flash offers. In many ways some of what I found reminded me of the 8-bit era. - Most of the games are apparently made by individual ...

It's got to be Damocles on the ST and Amiga.

There is so much exploration to be done in that game, the sheer scope and depth of it is amazing. I spent hours flying and teleporting around that solar system, constantly finding new things.

Star Raiders. There was quite literally nothing else in its time that offered such pure, deep immersion in a game world. An absolutely spectacular experience to discover.

I would go with Plumbers Don't wear Ties for the 3DO. Yes, it is rare. It's also obscure, even for a 3DO exclusive title. It's also awful. It's barely a game at all, it's just a choose-your-own-adventure dating sim with still photos and badly recorded voiceovers. The few drawn graphics in the game a...

How about Outrun Europa for the Spectrum? Your Sinclair gave it a positive review with several remarkably colourful screenshots, which the review also gushed over - colours which were nowhere to be seen once you actually bought the game and took it home.
