Re: what is your rarest retro item/or most favourite retro i

Probably Phantasy Star for the Master System, but i'm not much of a collector. The less physical games i have, the better. I like my house tidy.

Re: Addictive games?

Rogue Legacy is one of the few recent games that i can truly call addicitve. I finished it on a weekend which gave me a bad case of thumb tendinitis.

Re: If you had to choose

My Master System + Phantasy Star. I don't much in the way of consoles, but that's a game i have an emotional attachment with.

Re: Getting stuck thread of humbleness.

I have to agree with Rainbow Islands vampire. He's such an annoying bastard that i even blogged about it: http://amigamemoirs.blogspot.com/2013/12/chapter-iii-rainbow-islands.html Besides that, from recent memory, i remember being stuck on the last level of Serious Sam 3 or the last boss of Giana Si...

Re: Your Favourite Gaming Quotes

Civ V is full of great quotes, but i'm probably cheating as they're just citations. But still, my favourites are:

"To achieve great things only two things are needed: A plan and not enough time"

“We only live to discover beauty. All else is a form of waiting”

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 123

I didn't even knew Salamander, but the cover looks fantastic. I also agree that the other options were very inferior, even looking amateurish.

But yes, a Cinemaware cover would have been tops.

Hunter. Awesome GTA clone before GTA even existed. Besides, did any of those games let you "drive" a windsurf board?

How could that game fit on one disk is a mystery.

Re: Greatest consoles of all time

Just to add my personal experience: Here in Portugal there were more kids with the Master System than with the NES, but it wasn't much of a big difference. The Megadrive-SNES relation on the other way was totally in favour of the Sega machine. I never met anyone with a SNES, and now that i'm trying ...

Re: Best Amiga Arcade Conversions

For me it has to be Rodland. I even preferred it to the Arcade. As for the rest, there were many good ones, even though they weren't arcade perfect like many magazines at the time liked to say. For me, the best of these are Rainbow Islands, Toki and Super Off-Road. EDIT: Oh, and Pang, or course. Don...

Re: Greatest consoles of all time

5 points - Nintendo DS. It rekindled the interest in simpler and more old-school games when everyone was obsessed with 3d and "cinematic" experiences. 4 points - Gamecube. Such a pretty console without any gimmicks and some of the best games of all time: Wind Waker, Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4...

Re: How much last gen stuff is too much?

My main beef with covering last generation is that many of those kind of games are the antithesis of what is "retro". It's all about what games are covered, not when they were made. I can understand the inclusion of Viewtiful Joe, but not Vice City for example.

Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines It's a glimpse of what video games might have been. Great characters, some of the best voice acting in a video game, interesting and mature setting and lots of choices and consequences. The fact that it made Troika go under is one of the biggest tragedies in video...

Re: From the forum issue 116 Best LucasArts game

Loom. It was my first and still my favorite. Absolute superb music and atmosphere. I still think the Amiga version looks better than the garish VGA version. It seemed like the programmers didn't know what to do with all the extra colours.
