Re: Discuss: Spectrum vs Amstrad Gaming

Also by Christmas 1984 the 48k Speccy was down to about £80-£90, the C64 about double that. That still made the CPC almost double the price of a C64 and quadruple that of a Speccy. The 80s were hard times for many parents and £350-£400 for a CPC was simply beyond their reach. You're way off with th...

Re: Discuss: Spectrum vs Amstrad Gaming

Don't forget as well that the CPC only came out in 1984. For other kids you would hang around with (usually your year and the one above) would already have had Christmasses 1982 and 1983 to get computers. By this stage we pretty much all had got Speccies and C64, so by the time Christmas 1984 came a...

Re: Discuss: Spectrum vs Amstrad Gaming

I'd think that the CPC sold well to people who were looking to get into the more serious aspects of computing. Without any official support for monitors and disk drives, the Spectrum was a bit of a non-starter in that department, and Commodore's options were somewhat underwhelming (no 80 column opt...

This thread is irrelevant as we all know that the Commodore Plus/4 was the best.

Re: Discuss: Spectrum vs Amstrad Gaming

It is amazing how things could change though. If my best mate had an Amstrad that Xmas then i would have followed him months later and got one for my birthday (or next xmas). Back then computers were new as anything, instead or parents buying their kids a £20 Tomy and a few star wars figures sudden...

Re: Discuss: Spectrum vs Amstrad Gaming

I had mates who had a Speccy; they played ace games like Atic Atac, 3dAnt Attack, 3d Starstrike and read a great mag called Crash! So I got one. I then saw the C64 in WH Smith and was blown away by the speech in Impossible Mission, the music in Wizball and the graphics in games like Labyrinth and Re...

Re: Discuss: Spectrum vs Amstrad Gaming

Doesn't matter what the technical abilities of a system are, or how many 'bits' it has. Doesn't matter if it was great at word processing or was useful to museums. All that matters is 'where the games any good?'. Games made specifically for the Amstrad were usually fairly decent, but most games were...

Re: Comedy moments that have really made you laugh

There's not much that makes me laugh out loud, but 'Bottom' episode 'Gas' always does. That episode was good but there are a ton of other episodes I find funnier. Smells (the sex spray episode), Richie's Birthday, the Christmas Episode, the camping episode. I could go on forever. WOMBLES!!!

There's not much that makes me laugh out loud, but 'Bottom' episode 'Gas' always does. Also some bits from Allo Allo, esp 'Flick the Gestapo' and the 'Gestapo Dance' scenes

If this is an actual premium Sega product like the Nintendo minis, great. If it's just more cheap licenced crap, no.

TBH Megadrive games are now so freely available on pretty much any format you can name that I don't see the point.
100% this.

Re: Billy Mitchell high scores wiped

But surely at some stage in all these years he must have 'completed' the game on a cab in front of a crowd or with credible witnesses? Obv playing on MAME isn't quite the same as original hardware, but can't be THAT much easier?

Re: Bubble Bobble - The Perfect Game?

C64 for me. The SID rendition of the title tune and the tighter gameplay area makes it a winner. I don't care if it's 100% accurate.

Re: Bubble Bobble - The Perfect Game?

I agree with much of what you have to say, but the jumping to 'spike' bubbles can be a bit annoying when getting stuck on the platforms . Tbh I prefer the C64 version to the arcade! Great music, great graphics and just as much fun single player as co-op. Perfect game? Not for me, that would be Outru...

Re: Movies that never got games

I've been waiting for a day off to mull this one over more because I have often thought that some films really do lend themselves to games quite well , yet some seem to fall by the wayside. Perhaps for the best given the technology at the time - however some would look good these days. Commando - a...
