Re: Which Dreamcast?

The thing that killed the DC for me was that they didn't get Madden or FIFA ; in fact they got little from EA who were arguably the top third party publisher at that time. The lack of a DVD player was also a mistake, even if it would have added another £30-£50 to the cost. They also seemed to want t...

Re: What Films/TV Have you Watched Recently?

Raiders of the Lost Ark. Absolutely years since I've seen it, but still as good. The nunchuck/coathanger scene is still as memorsble!

Re: top 12 martial arts games

Ye Ar Kung Fu Way Of The Exploding Fist Budokan I remember those with particular fondness! :D Yie Ar was great fun (iirc C64 was best as it had all the badies inc the brillo Chain) but most of the time was spent jump across the screen and mashing the stick; there didn't seem much strategy to it lik...

Re: top 12 martial arts games

For me Renegade should be on the list as it's equal to DD. In fact with 1 player, it's better. Much more gritty and violent. Also Shadow Dancer is better than the original Shinobi. As for WOTEF being a copy of Karate Champ; same could be said of all 2d one-on-one fighters. But although Fist is VERY ...

Re: top 12 martial arts games

WOTEF gets into any list, as does IK+ (Both C64 natch). No fireballs, no 6 button multi-combo moves, just 1 stick with 1 button and your own skill.

Others include Saboteur (speccy), Kung Fu Master (arcade and c64).

Re: 30 Years! Atari ST from Evesham Micros.

My first ST was a new one, it came with a huge game bundle of about 20-30 games (think it was called the 'Power Pack') which comprised mainly of 8 bit games which had been updated to 16bit. Was a great machine, and I loved it until I saw that some of the newer games (particularyly from the likes of ...

Re: Atari : A Visual History Book (Concept Project)

This looks very nice. If you're thinking of putting it on Kickstarter, I for sure would back it. Games at that time had some fantastic artwork in adverts and on boxes, which really fired the imagination where the in-game graphics could not, so hopefully that will come through in the book; certainly ...

Re: games where the original was best

Dungeon Master. Chaos Strikes Back was more of the same, but stupidly hard and didn't have the 'feel' of the original; and the less said about other sequels the better. The first one felt so right, with brilliant atmosphere, and superb use of the torch/food/spells system, meaning that you were const...

Re: 2018/19 Football season chat

Title is there for the taking for City. Whilst Liverpool clearly have the edge over them in head to head, they won't have the ability to beat everyone home and away that Man City do. Spurs may struggle - you can't leave it down to Kane every season, and no signings is bizarre - and God alone knows w...

Re: games where the original was best

I'll swear Afterburner, Outrun and Space Harrier were only 50p a go in my local arcade. 10p for the really old games, 20p for the new stuff in standard cabs, then the big moving cabs were 50p. £1 would give you 3 credits on the big games. Yep, that's what it was round my way too. Remember Dragons L...

Re: Doctor Who Community Buzzing With Rumours

Haven't really watched Who 'properly' since Davison. Colin Baker didn't really fit and whilst really put the effort in, the scripts weren't up to much. Have I missed much since then? Well, there are so many Tom Baker, Pertwee and Troughton classics to get through that there is no need to watch any n...

Re: The first games you completed.

Yeah in Monty Is Innocent you played Sam Stoat - who also had his own game (Safe Breaker). It was actually a pretty short, neat game, and you could win it fairly easily - and end up not seeing half the rooms in the game. Totally different from the original and a little unfairly maligned imho. First ...

Re: games where the original was best

Outrun - for those like me who saw it in the arcade when it first came out- was a revelation. The graphics were amazing, the sound like nothing we'd heard before. It was £1 per go in a hydraulic cab. May not sound like a big deal now , but back then top games were 20p a go and 'classics' 10p, so you...

Re: games where the original was best

Galaga was a sequel! Galaxian is the original! I would say Robocop, Outrun, Double Dragon, Tetris and Lemmings. I think yes to all of these. Yes to all, aside from Outrun. If it weren't for this forum, I'd probably have never have tried (and bought) Outrun 2 and Coast to Coast. Its vastly superior ...

Re: Europe's largest arcade - in Bury !

Arkanoid arcade has a great, heavy, metal dial controller that works really well. Can't say I ever saw it with buttons (other than home conversions) and certainly not with a trackball.
