on the cartridge front.... I remember a couple of years back disassembling a broken cyberball cartridge. IIRC it used some standard 74-series logic chip as a bankswitcher and a 1mbit eprom. I'm wondering if someone carefully disassembling such a cartridge to replicate the board design might be an id...

Commodore 16s are notorious for blowing their TED chips, although the +4 is usually more reliable. The symptoms sound right for a blown TED chip though sadly. +4 keyboards aren't so great though (mine near-on needs hitting with a lumphammer to get any kind of response out of it), so I'd hold onto th...

It's a great game, but not THAT great! I would have given it around 94% or something like that.
I thought the opening credits said it all ;)

I think the problem with the Archimedes (Other than being proof that sometimes the 'it'll help with my homework' blag that got you a C64 might not unnecessarily work a second time and get you an Amiga) is that whilst a certain age group did get loads of exposure to the machine it was rows of machine...

Creatures.

Drop the levels and just gives us more bizarre ACME-powered comedy cartoon torture devices to play with (and possibly disarm).

I would love that

Re:

The best Atari 2600 games have just about infinite playability, and I keep coming back to them. Circus Atari, Super Breakout, River Raid, Enduro... too many others to mention. The musical analogy suits it best: modern gaming is like overblown progressive rock, while the 2600 is like the blues. Most...

I think the good-to-naff ratio is about the same as ever, just nobody spends their time remembering the mediocre game and just holds on to the good ones and those so terrible they are impossible to actually forget. and in originality terms you can't forget that the second ever game was a clone of th...

Re:

In defence of Muse, surely all of us have old systems or games that we wouldn't go back to even though others would. I consider myself a Retro Gamer but I've never owned an Atari 2600, or even played any game other than Combat on one. And I have no intention of buying or emulating one now. However,...

i doubt these days I could actually write an old-style BASIC program with line numbers these days having gone down the C++ path. I still maintain that the best thing commodore basic on the 64 did for me was be so crappy that you eventually realise it's almost assembler that looks like basic so nudge...

I have to agree with streetfighter - I never even liked it at the time, which severely limited my social gaming.

Every so often I fire it up, knowing there HAS to be something in there that everyone sees and loves about it... but no.

It's just wasted on me I'm afraid

okay - admit it.

I wasn't the only one who made the main sprite a certain male appendage and made the objective to shoot badly drawn sperm at things was I?

( no.. I'm not in the games industry. i think this post illustrates nicely why :) )

Re: Pac-man 2600

Yars Revenge always used to give me a headache, the flashing lights. Can someone please tell me what the hell the point of Yar's Revenge is - I cannot figure it out. I have tried to play many times but it pisses me off so much I turn it off. One of the troubles of buying carts without manuals I sup...

pacman on the VCS is fun and playable so if it was an original game I'd be fine with it but if I was the kid who played it in the arcade then unwrapped that cart on xmas day I'd probably not have been very happy though.

I think its made worse by what it has to live up to.

Some random selections worth listening to that show the SID's abilities off; please use a decent SID player for these because they all need a good emulation engine, SIDPlay2/Win would be one of the best bets: HVSC\\Connolly_Sean\\Combo_Racer.sid Try counting the channels as they come in on your fin...
