Re: Sony patents pre-owned games block

once you've installed it and used the Steam Key then you can no longer sell the game as to anyone else it just becomes a useless piece of plastic. Yet that hasn't killed PC gaming. If anything Steam's given PC gaming a boost. The reason for that is that there wasn't much of a used game market for P...

Re: Cheating sports games?

The Ridge Racer games cheat a lot. I played a lot of "Rage Racer" on the PS1 and it was ridiculous on there. Bump a CPU car from behind and they would rocket forward while you came to a near stop. If a CPU car bumped you from behind, you'd come to a near stop, with no effect to the CPU car. Lots and...

Re: Official Feedback Issue 99

Late to the party as always but I've just started reading issue 99 and thought I'd throw in some feedback. First off, I think the cover is terrible. Don't really care how accurate it is to the game, which I never played originally, just know that it's ugly. Really, really ugly. I will admit that the...

Re: Is the Saturn and underrated console?

I remember walking through the mall the day the Saturn came out - remember the surprise launch at Babbage's? - and thinking "Man, $400? I'll pass..." and didn't buy one. I ended up buying a PS1 later that year instead. A few years later, I was walking through Sears and they had Saturns discounted do...

Re: Best Apple II games...

Yeah, I'm bumping an ancient thread :) Reading the Apple II article in RG 107 got me looking for an Apple discussion thread on here. Wanted to add my choices. Some great ones already listed. Some of my favorites: - Micro League Baseball - Computer Baseball (SSI) - loved that I could create my own te...

Re: Jordan Mechner: In the Chair

No question really, I just still dont know how you managed to make Karateka on the Apple II, that game just blew my mind at the time.. fitting that game onto, what - 48k or perhaps it even ran on 16k systems (?), simply genius, just on another level. I dont know how many times I ran into those spik...

Re: Canceled Streets of Rage remake footage

I think this actually looks pretty good. Captures a lot of the style/spirit of the originals. Obviously needed a lot of work yet but not bad at all.

Re: Atari Inc. history book....

Just placed my order. I cannot wait to read this - am a huge nut for books on video game history and the personalities involved.

Are there still plans for a Vol 2?

Thanks,

Re: Your favourite all time gaming magazine is?

Next Generation And it's not even close for #2 (excluding Retro Gamer, of course). Next Generation was the first magazine - in the US, at least - that was really, truly serious. The first one with - gasp - long articles, in-depth, technical information and so on. A total breath of fresh air and a ma...

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 107 feedback thread

Where was Lode Runner? In issue 111, as an extended making-of—although the Apple II's barely a third of the story. Awesome! I look forward to reading that in several months when issue 111 finally goes on sale here :) Lode Runner is one of my favorites from way back when. Thanks for the responses. T...

Re: Sub genres that have faded away

How about the "realistic combat" genre, excluding MMA? Whether it was realistic karate (like in Black Belt) or boxing (sorry, Fight Night doesn't really count) or stuff like Bushido, outside of MMA, we don't see a whole lot of realistic combat sports games.

Re: New book about graphic adventures.

You could buy this, or you could just point your browser at Wikipedia and find the articles for yourself, for free. I don't really see the point of this book. You must have missed the part where it said he added info from other sources, added screenshots, and interviewed the creators, in addition t...
