Re: Discuss 133: Remakes of classic games

Personally, I like remakes. As others have said, however, the key is the gameplay. If the gameplay is there, but with enhanced graphics and sound, awesome! To that end, the measuring stick for remakes in my eyes will always be Super Mario All-Stars . In my opinion, Nintendo got that one exactly righ...

Re: Unreleased games

My #1 would the Sword of Sodan for the Apple IIGS. I know the Amiga version was completed and the game ended up being not great or whatever. I don't care. The GS version was so far ahead graphically of what other GS games were doing that I wanted to see THAT game. Grrrr. In the arcade, one would be ...

Re: Are You An Easy Mode Warrior?

For me, I generally play on the default difficulty levels. For shmups, I almost always switch to the easiest mode. I like playing but stink at them, so easy it is. If I find the game too difficult on normal, I've got no problem switching to easy. I'm not interested in torturing myself to get through...

Re: Best Type-In Progs by Machine

There were a few good ones, in a book called Apple Graphics Games, a couple of them were really pretty good - Spider and Pairs, as decent games as you would get outside of official releases anyway. But it took a long time and typing in many games before getting to those ones. I tried typing in the ...

Re: Daytona USA or Ridge Racer?

I did have some fun with Rage Racer and managed to complete the standard tracks (although not the backwards ones) since at the time modifiying and repainting your car was fairly unique. However it obsolete the second Gran Turismo was released. I managed to do all the backward tracks, too. I never g...

Re: The Uncharted Series..

I definitely prefer the Assassin's Creed series overall, particularly AC2 - the greatest game of all-time, IMHO. That said, the Uncharted games are great. They are not perfect but they are great. In particular, I'm a big fan of #2. Such an incredibly beautiful game, fun gameplay, a decent story, and...

Re: Daytona USA or Ridge Racer?

Would have been a great game if it weren't for the collision mechanics. I was certainly a raging racer after coming to a virtual standstill every time you brush the barrier or another car. Hahaha, funny stuff. And so, so true. I played the heck out of that game after playing the demo that came on o...

Video/Computer Game History Books

Just finished reading the newly-released Console Wars by Blake Harris and that got me to thinking of what other books are out there for those interested in the history of the video/computer game industry? I've read a few: The Ultimate History of Video Games by Steven Kent - the best I've read so far...

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 122 Official feedback

The Apple II column was great. Being from the US, the Apple was a big part of my youth. Please keep adding more coverage of it! Glad you enjoyed my Apple II feature. :) I had a lot of fun going through the line's extensive library trying to pick 19 titles that would give a taste of everything that ...

Just adding my two bits on this issue. Haven't read it all yet but... - I, for one, won't miss Iain Lee's column. I haven't liked any of his articles, including this one. - The Apple II column was great. Being from the US, the Apple was a big part of my youth. Please keep adding more coverage of it!...

Re: Assassins Creed II free download for 360 Gold Members

I cant see myself ever playing this so will pass despite it being free. Got over half way through the first before i gave up. Such a bore. Looked great and had a great number of ideas, but it became repetitive very quickly. Cant quite see how they have released so many since, churning out one every...

Re: The original Super Mario Bros for the NES

My memory of Super Mario Bros? That year, my grandmother told me I could pick one item (within reason) for Christmas and I would definitely get it. This was a new thing - before all I could do was ask and pray :) My friend John and I spent a lot of time at Toys R Us looking at all the Nintendo games...

I like it a lot. Not my favorite Zen 2 table - that would be Sorcerer's Lair - but it's good.

Apologies if these have already been mentioned: - an in-depth history/profile on Sierra, the makers of King's/Police/Space/Hero Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Ultima 2, Silpheed, Thexder, and a whole bunch more. - maybe an in-depth celebration/history of the Command & Conquer games, or at least the firs...
