I'd like to see The Bard's Tale redone. Not the redone version we got last year, but a new version in the same style as the originals. Heck, I'd love to see straight-up hi-res remakes of the originals.

In other shockers:

- we will all die someday

:)

Opinions generally can't be considered facts, but "Miyamoto is a genius" is one opinion that IS a fact.

ACE for me too. Then I saw "ACE" on a machine I hadn't yet played and realized I need to go with my actual initials instead - CCT. On games that let you have more than 3 letters, I went with my nickname - Tabe.

I'm going to say vertical. My favorite shooters that actually fall into one category* are Raiden I & II, Space Megaforce, and Twin Cobra - all vertical shooters. * - my favorite shooter of all-time is Time Pilot, which is neither vertical nor horizontal. Second-favorite would be Axelay which, as men...

So many excellent recommendations in this thread already. I added 5 of them to my Amazon wish list and bookmarked the Rolenta site to remind myself to order some of those in the future. One that I have not seen mentioned: Hackers by Steven Levy - this is not specifically about the game industry but ...

Re: Any Apple //e gamers on here?

This was the machine I grew up with, andc I still play 'Aztec', 'Castle Wolfenstein' and 'Conan' sometimes. I loved Aztec back in the day. Some of the goofiest controls ever, but lots of fun. I also played a lot of "IO Silver", which is a Beagle Brothers game similar to Pengo. I still play that one...

Re:

In response to the above three posts... First of all, this was a poll for the best shoot 'em up series . As I mentioned, I intentionally left out some awesome one-off shooters (e.g. Axelay) and ones that only have one or two sequels (e.g. Raiden). Raiden had more than "one or two sequels": Raiden R...

The correct answer is the Raiden series. I demand it be added to the ballot! ;)

Another big fan of video game music here. I have tons of music that I've downloaded, as well as a few volumes (Shenmue) that I've purchased. In fact, I'm listening to game music as I write this - the soundtrack to Knights of Honor, to be specific. Some of my favorites: Shenmue Orchestral Version Kni...

Apple II all the way!

For me, without a doubt, it's the Apple IIe. The Apple IIGS comes close but the lack of a GS-specific programming language right out of the box hurt it in my eyes. And it was a little slow, but I digress... The Apple IIe was the first computer my family ever owned. I'd used others prior to that (Com...

Yes. According to the Ultima Collectors Guide site, the two Underworld games came out in 1992 & 1993 respectively. Doom was released in 1995.

I've always felt RG was a little lacking in coverage on the Apple II series. Yeah, there was a nice article on the IIGS a few issues back but there has been a general lack of coverage overall. The biggest sin? Remember the cover disc with over 100 emulators on it, emulating "every system"? Not a sin...
