I still fail to understand why it would this thread be better idling dead between game comparison posts. it was like that without tech talk. there's no other conversations going on whatsoever thats disturbed. why cant some of you tolerate ppl discussing tech related stuff to these comparisons? Beca...

http://monroeworld.com/forum/ Shane Monroe's forum. Discuss classic gaming, or how much Dragon's Lair sucks. (if you dare!) Is it just me that finds that forum and RGR incredibly dull? It's US based and unashamedly so - which basically means they don't cover anything that isn't part of their past g...

I fail to understand why is it better to have this thread in a form of 1 comparison each week or month and then no activity at all, instead of technical or whatever debates inbetween ? this is the most heavily moderated forum I've ever seen (RG) feels like 1984. "no technical debates dude! - big br...

The first proper game I played was Heroes of Karn (see games comparison thread) on the C64, but when my parents bought me the computer (from a catalogue IIRC), they didn't bother getting a storage device to go with it - so I didn't have a tape deck or disk drive to store anything on or load games fr...

OK, so let's break the trend and go for something different: Heroes of Karn from Interceptor Micros. Illustrated text adventure by Ian Gray, released for C64, Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. I have a sentimental attachment to this game as it was the very first game I ever bought for my C64 and later becam...

I'm just playing games I enjoy. Age is irrelevant, and while aesthetics do count somewhat they aren't a decisive factor. Gameplay, concept, implementation... these are the things that make me play a game. The three games I play most count two which are the latest in long-running series (so the conce...

I also remember an old primarily text-based adventure game that used a dice rolling based 'hit-points' system for fighting. Can't remember what it was called though! You will always get people trying new things, resulting in these oddities, doesn’t mean a genure description should be changed to a...

As i mentioned in another thread. Space Quest 3. Move with mouse. Type commands to interact. What the hell is that in this classificaiton? One of those cross-over games I mentioned. A few did what you describe, a few others described the scene with text but used an icon driven interface to interact...

I think that was Amstrad's quality control policy full stop. A lot of their stuff suffered from the "cheap and nasty" build quality problem.Katzkatz wrote:I remember a friend of mind said about Amstrad's build qualitly at the time that they shake the PC's up and down and hope nothing doesn't rattle inside them.

But you can’t say that everything that refers to ‘graphic Adventures’ as a particular type of game is by default wrong, just because the term was coined years ago, IMO No, I simply think that the distinction between what was classed as "text adventure" and "graphic adventure" is now totally i...

One of the best examples has already been mentioned.. GAC... It did what it said on the tin, created Graphic adventures, not Point and click adventure creator but GRAPHIC ADVENTURE CREATOR... And yes, that is my copy :) That's OK, I have one too. I'm not denying how the term was used at the time, b...
