Yeah, the bottom left is very similar indeed.

I knew I'd seen that character before... it's Soldier of Fortune on the Speccy.

Next one...

I don't think it is, you know. There are similarities, but unless there's a 128 version that has a different panel from all the other versions of Stormlord it ain't it. The main sprite doesn't look right either.

Edit - the pics on the Weekend Gamer site have a few captions, just hover the mouse over the pic... Ahh... alt tags don't appear when you do that with Opera , y'need to right click and select "Image properties" - the tag will be the title of the window that opens (for any Opera users who didn't alr...

I think people forget that the eye compensates for indistinct graphics , specially when they're moving, so the idea that the blurred screenshots are "what we actually see" is a misnomer. In most cases it doesn't really relate to what you see when you are playing the game and just ends up like a blur...

So how were screen images produced back in the days of Crash and Zzap64?

I don't recall them looking like they'd just been captured off a TV screen, with the distortions involved (some of the cheaper looking mags did have obvious distortions).

I disagree. The series has "run its course' about as much as Pro Evo and Fifa. It's a competitive game and each sequel adds valuable refinements and updates in much the same way as any sports game does. I'd have to disagree. In some games constant improvements work and perfect the experience, in ot...

Loved the original and the first sequels, but they didn't know when to stop. I know it's just scorched tanks with squirmy wiggly things instead, yet I enjoyed worms far more.

I gave up around 2002/2003. There was just no point any more. Amiga Inc were as clueless as any company I've ever come across and the rest were motivated by ego and dogma rather than practicalities (which led to the stupid but eminently predictable state of having an operating system but no hardware...

Never really found that to be an issue, it wasn't half as bad as my collection of C90s ;) :D I suppose I was spoiled as most of my C64 games are originals (not counting downloads of course), so in most cases there would only be one game per tape - and in fact in many cases despite the same content ...

I've got a C64 version of it in a box somewhere. It was better than many other compilations, but suffered from the same problem as far as C64 tape users were concerned: you'd have to load each game individually at least once to note down the tape positions. Also, the bigger the collection the longer...

The graphics might be simpler, but its expression is pretty much identical to your average modern game. That's pretty much it for me. It might be old, and it might use primitive technology compared to today, but it concept and gameplay it's exactly like dozens of modern games released every year on...

This will always be a prickly subject, and chances are that what is retro to one person will not be retro to someone else (and vice versa). Take the Quake debate... is it old? Certainly. Is it retro? Well, that depends on your definition of "retro", and there lies the rub. For me - and this is just ...
